Consult for FET

I go Monday (5/16) to my RE for a consult for a FET. Not sure if the funds will present themselves in order us to follow through, but made the appointment anyway. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. We only have two snowbabies, and if this doesn't work, we may never be able to try another fresh cycle due to male factors:( I don't expect it to work, but I have to give the little fellas a shot, right? Prayers would be appreciated.

And mine are with you! I see Dr Grunert at Fertility Specialists of Houston by The Women's Hospital. Dh's urologist referred us. His bedside manner isn't the greatest - he's very matter of fact, which actually came in handy when I started bleeding heavily around 7 weeks - but he got us pg on our first cycle, and I know how lucky that makes me. I'm kinda afraid to change anything, you know?

Good luck at your appt on Monday. At least if you don't have the funds you will know some options and get any questions you have answered. Wouldn't be nice if a big clump of money landed in our front yards when needed? Give the little fellas a shot...you never know what might come of them, you might get twinkies. Wink

I can not STAND this man! I think I may have told you guys before but he was an @$$ when I had to go see him. He did a colpo for me when I had an abnormal pap and I ended up leaving there in tears because he said such mean things to me. I swore I would never go back to him. I switch to Dr Dunn (same practice, its the door next to Dr Grunert's) and have never been happier with a doctor. I love him! However, I understand about not wanting to change. But trust me, Dr Dunn was able to give me so much confidence in my FETs and my IVF cycle. He is a wonderful doctor and human being! I can't sing enough praises for him. He is the one that told me in March that my chance of getting pg on my own is pretty much obsolete, yet I left the appt feeling happy that he was honest and so nice about it. Grunert would have been horrible to hear that from.

Anyway - sorry about my tangent. After you meet with him about the FET you should go talk to your financial person. I have been very open with mine and talked to her a lot. When I was considering doing a cycle in March she was so good at helping me figure out the pricing. I believe a FET is $3200 there. However, if the embryos arrest before ET than you are only out the cost of the u/s you had done. That was important to me to find out since the quality of my remaining embryos aren't great.

Oh and some insurance companies will give you a deal on IVF if you don't have coverage for it. Like I have Aetna and the cost of a full cycle - minus the cryopreservation - is $7000 vs the normal $15000. So definitely ask if you can get any kind of discount for who your insurance is through or if by paying cash you can pay less. One of my other doctors told me that any doctors office can set the price and they can lower for you if you ask.

Thanks, everybody!

Jenn - I don't blame you for not liking Grunert. He definitely doesn't give me the warm fuzzies. And if our first cycle hadn't worked, I don't think I would have given him a second try. I think my insurance is affiliated with ParentSteps. I have to call them tomorrow because I can't figure out how to log in. I think $3200 is manageable. And good to know that if they arrest, I'm not out much. That's what I'm really afraid will happen. We had 15 at ER, 12 were mature, 10 fertilized with ICSI, 6 made it to day 5, transferred 2, and 2 more made it to freeze, so I'm not sure of their quality. If we try a FET and it doesn't work, I might try your guy. Is he actually with FSH or OGA? As far as I know, we're only dealing with MFI, which in some ways is lucky, but DHs boys are hard to come by:) Thanks for the tips!

Meg - I have thought about that too! Unfortunately, DD was an attempted unmedicated L&D turned emergency c-section and my doc is very VBAC friendly, but I don't know if he'd give me a shot with two. But if God gives me twinks, I will gladly take them any way they come out!

I'll KYP!
