Cycle cancelled :(

Well my RE called about this afternoon to let me know that my estrogen level did not go up at all. He felt that we needed to cancel this cycle and see about using a different protocol next time. I have an appointment next Thursday to regroup and evaluate what we'll do next. I felt defeated and disappointed, but after talking to DH I feel much better. Hopefully next time we'll get better results Smile

:bigarmhug: I'm so sorry your cycle got canceled. At least your RE realized this cycle wasn't going to work out and canceled it instead of putting you through the ER and that just adds extra cost. It was very honest of your RE. Some REs may have gone ahead with the ER to get the extra cash in their hands and just told you there weren't many retrieved. I'm hoping this next protocol works for you. Sadly, a lot of first cycles don't work out. It's kind of trial and error and then after they can tweak your cycle. It would be really nice if everyone got their first cycle for free.

Oh no! I'm so sorry.....how disappointing. I hope the next protocol works better for you.

This board is just not having any luck lately, are we?

I'm so sorry. Take time to honor yourself. Remember that you did nothing to cause this and could have done nothing to prevent it. I'm glad that your RE has a plan for the next step.

Thank you for the great support! Meg I completely agree with you. RE could have gone thru with the ER but he chose to look out for my best interests. Also because they will have me on completely different medication, they will exchange my leftover meds for what I will be on next time. That is a great bonus Smile
DH was wonderful about this. Jenni he said the same thing you did, and you are all right. There is absolutely nothing I could have done to prevent this. I have done more things right this time than any other time in my life.
Kara, this board has been down in the "luck" department lately Smile but I am choosing to turn this frown upside down and just go with the flow Smile Hopefully next time will be better, and if not than at least I'll know I did everything possible without any regrets.
BTW I had a huge, huge cup of coffee this morning full of caffeine Biggrin

You have exactly the right attitude! I am sorry if I sounded negative. I heard the same thing that Meg said from another friend-who just got pregnant on her 2nd IVF cycle. She said the 1st is like a "trial run".....everyone SHOULD get it for free! I am going to join you in the giant cup of caffeine now.

Oh no....I'm so sorry. I agree that at least the cycle was cancelled before the ER! Your RE sounds like he's really nice and fair! I hope everything goes smoothly for you next time! ((HUGS))

Meg and Kara, I've heard that as well about the first IVF cycle being a trial run. It's making me kind of nervous! You are right! I think it would be great if they did give us a discounted trial IVF or something like that....

Believe me I did not take your comment as negative. My thoughts yesterday afternoon were anything but positive Smile But since my attitude is about the only thing I can control I decided that making it good is the only way to go.
Oh and how I wish we could get FREE cycles. That would make this process so much less stressful Biggrin

So sorry you had a cancelled cycle. Even though it's better to have it cancelled now rather than later, it's still a hard blow.

Does your doc post his statistics on the SART website? Many of them do and they post what their percentage of cancellations are. It varies in our area from 3-8%. It is not that common, at least based on those statistics. I wonder what the experience among this group of women has been.

Your post inspired me to check the success rate for my clinic again. They did not have single cancellation in my age group since 2007 and only 2-4 per year in all age groups. I just messed up their streak

I think it should make you feel confident that next time is going to work. Also, these things do happen. I wonder how their cancellations are by diagnoses. I would think that might play a larger factor than age. i.e. I expect cancellations to be low for endometriosis but higher for premature ovarian failure or PCOS. Just a thought. Regardless, you're in my thoughts and prayers. People do have cancellations. And your clinic has a good track record.
