Hi New here

Hi everyone.. my hubby and i have been trying to have children for several years (8 to be exact). We have been seen by 4 fertility doctors and up until Nov of last year they weren't working with me or holding me back. My hubby has a genetic disorder called Klemens syndrome, which prevents him from producing sperm, i was also diagnosed with PCOS. I have always been heavy and it wasn't until i started going to docs that they discovered i had PCOS. In march of 09 i under went lap band surgery in order to reverse the PCOS. The doctors all told me that in order for them to help i need to lose weight so i chose to have that surgery. In the time i was having my surgery my hubby got with a group of researchers that were trying out a new drug to help men with his condition. Since he has been on this medication he has successfully reversed his problem and he can produce sperm and it's live to boot Smile So now i have had this surgery my hubby can produce sperm, now i decided to find someone willing to work with me. So in November i found a new doctor and after we meet and i went over everything she looked at me and said oh my you and your hubby have been through hell. :/ I have been through some very painful test and now this doctor looks at me and says " i have got a couple pregnant with similar issues, were going to do IVF. So I leave her office in tears. They weren't tears of sadness more tears of holy crap this is really happening. Since i meet her she has done an internal ultra sound and blood work. Two weeks ago she started me on Lupron. I have been doing the shots at the same time every day. Now im suppose to have gotten my period on Friday but i haven't and im suppose to have an internal ultrasound on wed ( the 26th) and them im suppose to start stimuli drugs on Friday. Now the doctor said the EG is suppose to happen on the 8th and transfer on the 11th. So now im freaking out. I'm looking for some support and people to talk to about this. Thanks for reading Smile

Hi babydreamer11! Welcome to our group. This group of ladies are FANTASTIC!! They are always willing to offer advice and encouraging words.

You are just a little bit behind me.. I started Lupron on Jan 15th and I start my gonal-f tonight! I'm guessing retrieval will be Feb 4th or 5th, but we'll see.

Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Welcome! You will find a great, supportive group of women on this board. I'm Jenn and it took me 8 years to get pg through IVF and 2 FETs. 8 years is a lifetime when TTC - I know. I'm really happy that you have a doctor that you like and that will work with you to help you achieve your dream of becoming a family. KUP on your progress.

Yes, it was very confusing to me when I came here. No, it does not sound stupid.

BCP-birth control pills
POAS-pee on a stick (that one took me forever to learn)
BFN-big fat negative (neg pg test)
beta-beta hcg, blood pg test

Some others I can think of:
BFP-big fat positve (positive pg test)
ER-embryo retrieval
ET-embryo transfer
3dt-3 day transfer
5dt 5 day transfer

Another that took me a while:
for example: 5dp3dt-5 days post 3 day transfer

I'm sure there are lots others that I'm not thinking of.

I think there is somewhere on this site that has all kinds of abbreviations but I'm not sure where it is at. Hopefully you won't have to be here long and won't need to learn too much. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

I have a question about coffee...I know when ur pregnant they recommend one cup...but the doc told me from this point on to act pregnant..so my question is 3days out from the transfer can I have one cup of coffee..will it hurt them....

My RE recommended no caffeine. I cut out caffeine when I started stims. I maybe was too cautious, but I didn't want to look back and think "I should've done this differently."

Check this out:

http://www.americanpregnancy.org/pregnancyhealth/caffeine.html

Facts: Experts have stated that moderate levels of caffeine have not been found to have a negative effect on pregnancy. The definition of moderate varies anywhere from 150 mg - 300 mg a day.

I think this goes hand in hand with the bed rest thread. We pay a lot of money for IVF and we want to do everything possible on our end to make sure it works. So we cut out every possible thing and take every precaution just to be sure and to make sure there is no way we can look back and say "if I only hadn't.....". That being said, how many pg women do you see drinking coffee? A lot! Pregnancy is exhausting! So my personal opinion is this - one cup a day is fine. However - did I drink it - no - LOL.

PG MENT:

When I did IVF and my FETs I cut out all caffeine for about a year or so while cycling. Once I got my BFP I was very careful to stick to my strict regimen that I had created for myself. However, once I hit the pregnancy exhaustion and headaches my OB said to have some coffee  That went against everything I had been doing but I was so desperate to feel better that I did. My ds turned out fine. So while I think you need to make your own decision on this, I don't think it will hurt and next time I don't plan to stop caffeine (in moderation) for my FET.
