Itchy - updated

I am going crazy with itchiness! Apparently one of the lovely side effects of puregon can be overall itchiness. No rash or anything, just itchy (and red skin once I do scratch). Nothing seems to soothe it. Anyone else had this and what did you do to cope?

2 years ago I had an "itchy" problem. It was horrible. It lasted for a couple months. I googled it and freaked myself out thinking I had cancer or some type of organ problem so I had DH do some bloodwork on me to put my mind at ease. It wasn't a dry skin itch I was experiencing either and would become worse if I scratched it. DH talked with an allergist and he saw me real quick off the record and said when you itch you have a histamine reaction, therefore, causing it to itch more. I would get red streaks where I itched and sometimes I'd itch so much I'd bruise. He told me to try not to itch. He also said it could have to do with sweating. After it continued on DH talked to the dermatologist and he recommended Cereve lotion/cream. That helped a lot. I still use non-smelly body wash and now I use Dermasil from the $ Tree. It works the same as Cereve and is only $1 a bottle compared to $15. DH gave me a round of prednisone and that took it away for a while but it came back. He then had me take a longer round of prednisone. After that it was gone completely. I think it was between the prednisone and the cream that made it finally go away. I haven't had any problems since and it was no caused by any medications. Idk what started it.

I try not to scratch but every day it seems like it gets worse. Everything I use is unscented due to scent allergies. It does not help that with it being winter which is so dry here. I tried putting baking soda in a warm bath, that lasted about 15 minutes...

I understand how annoying it is. You want to super glue mittens on your hands so you can't take them off and itch. Have you tried taking an antihistamine or do you have any cortisone to rub on it?

Tried both, during the day I can distract myself but at night it is crazy!

What about an oatmeal bath? I have really really dry skin and once a week I take one. It soothes already irritated skin and seems to take the itch away temporarily.

Good idea! Will do that later. I do use alveeno lotion so I should have thought about it.

Have become worse. Still no rash but bleeding from where I can not stop itching. I called the medical helpline and spoke to a nurse and a pharmacist. They think I need prednisone or a very strong anti-histamine. I have a call into the fertility clinic, I don't think I told them how really bad things were on Friday. I tried to see if I could get into see my family doctor at 7:30 but he is away. I have a job interview (different place) in an hour and then we are going to the hospital... I have only had 2 hours of sleep in the past 48 and am feeling miserable. Seriously I want to kill myself the pain and itching is driving me so crazy!

Bummer that you are still itchy. I'm sure you are just miserable. I agree on the prednisone. That's what in the end helped me. Let us know what you find out at the hospital.

I missed the job interview again but went to the ER. I was in and out in less then an hour (which is unheard of in our busy hospital), I didn't even talk with the nurse other then triage. I was given prednisone at the hospital and have to take it for 5 days total. Definitely an allergic reaction, the doc wondered if I should have an epi pen and was happy to hear that I have one already.

Talked with the RE's office. I am to take my dosage this evening as normal but make sure I have allergy stuff on hand just in case, and DH on stand by if I do have breathing issues. My throat was a little swollen but that could be a cold so we need to be careful.

Really hoping my trigger is tomorrow night.

Glad you were able to be seen quickly. Hopefully the prednisone kicks in and that this cycle works so you don't have to worry about trying a different med again. Were you able to reschedule your interview?

Oh wow!! I couldn't imagine how awful that must be! I hope the prednisone has helped.
