Hi! Joined this site roughly 5yr ago when DH & I began this journey. Took 3yr hiatus after things didn't happen so easily for us. Back now... Past the really raw stages & now in need of the support this site has to offer! DH & I have an appt with local OBGYN next Tuesday to discuss fertility treatment--specifically, the one's that we are able to move forward with right away. By the way, we are dealing with MIF. DH #'s, last time we did an SA were 4mil per mil. We are hoping his numbers are high enough to go for an IUI. My guess is we'll both need to undergo add'l testing as I have only ever had blood work done & DH hasn't had an SA since 2008.
Any IUI'ers out there that can tell me if there is a particular # requirement for this procedure? Anything else I should be prepared for...?
Not sure if there is a cut off for numbers for IUI. My DH's SA was excellent so I don't know. We had to cancel my IUI after I became severely allergic to the meds.
If you have only had bloodwork they will probably repeat that and possibly and hsg to see if your tubes are clear. Are you going to an OB or an RE? I suggest you get an RE if at all possible, they are the experts in the field.

We are seeing a new OB... they do the IUIs, HSGs, etc. They come highly rec'd by several people I know... all which have had successful pregnancies while dealing with Infertility. I am willing to start with him, with the knowledge that we may end up referred up to Indy to an RE. At least let them do all the work up locally.
Thanks for the input! Anything helps!!!
We did 2 IUI's with MFI. DH had a very low sperm count and an antisperm antibody attached to his sperm. Since his count was low he'd go in a few times prior to IUI to freeze some and provide some the day of IUI. He did it just to increase the amount of sperm. Even though he had to drive 4 hrs to do it, he still did it. Anything to increase our odds. I would bet that your doc would want to redraw blood and do another SA since things can change over the years. Also an HSG like PP states. There is no point in doing IUI if your tubes are blocked. I know you want to start with an ob/gyn but remember if/when you have to go to an RE they will probably want to retest everything again, as far as bloodwork and SA. I'm not sure what your insurance coverage is so that's something to think about.
IVF #1-cancelled d/t embryos arresting before transfer (3/09)
IVF #2-BFP 9wks-7/30/09 (6/09)
IVF #3-BFN (5/10)
We did 3 round of clomid and 3 rounds of IUI w clomid without success. I am trying to remember what the average success noted in studies were - something like 5-10%. I would ask for realistic numbers on this (or look them up) on whatever treatment is offered before underoing it. My RE, who was above avg with success and below avg in cost, frequently overestimated what he thought the likelihood for success would be in our various treatments. We moved on to IVF at that point because we were moving and we would not have access to those services easily - so I know what you mean about it being difficult if you are far away from the RE. P.S. I also had my workup completely finished by the time I saw the RE... was nice to get things rolling at that point.
I also know what you mean about the emotional toll of infertility.
Hi there and welcome back!
My DH has low motility and low morphology. His morph is 5%. And motility is 30%. (If I remember correctly). My AMH is 0.08. Which is incredibly low meaning I have premature ovaraian failure as well as all the issues indicated in my siggy. My RE said w/my issues plus DHs borderline SA they recommended to by pass the IUI and go straight to IVF w. ICSI. They will always try if you want.
I was told that SAs are only truly valid for 6 months because sperm is constantly being reproduced unlike our eggs. So someone that was fine before could now be NOT fine. So I'm sure he will need another SA.
I would write down all your questions to your OB/GYN so that you be sure to get your answers. If your OB does not do IVF, I would consider moving to a RE now. That way you don't have to transfer care and you have that continuity. Just my two cents. Anyways- best of luck. KUP. This is a small group here, but everyone is supportive and knowledgable.
