Default IVF #2 now or later?

Multiple IVFers... How long did you typically wait between cycles? It will be one month from my BFN next week, which is hopefully when I'll get AF. That's 6 weeks from ER. My body feels good and recovered so I have no problem starting again but I'm having a dilemma about when to start #2 due to other circumstances. If I follow similar protocol (don't know for sure yet- I meet with the RE on Thursday) my ER & ET would be around a week before my brother's wedding. I am in the wedding so I'd rather not be a hot, bloated mess. If we wait one more month, and start in mid-November, my ER & ET would be around Christmas. That is also not ideal. I don't know what to do! For my mental health, I don't think I can wait until the new year for #2. So it's just prioritizing- do I suck up the possibility of looking and feeling crappy at my borther's wedding and knowing I'll have to take more time off work. Or do I chance having the procedures close to Christmas, which means I wouldn't have to take time off work as we get a 2 week winter break, but we might have to tell family (we've been keeping it very private but being around family so much with all my shots and appointments would be tough) and there's a chance we couldn't travel to see other family that lives 3 hours away. I'm at a lost. I wish I could schedule the day of my ER and ET and my body would just comply... lol

    What do you ladies think?

You have lots to think about and for good reason. I wish an IVF cycle could be planned. I did one of my cycles around the time of my sister's wedding and getting ready for her wedding served as a distraction during the 2WW. Although, I was not in her wedding so I didn't have to worry about that. Doing it around Christmas would also be good because of the need to not have to take as much time off of work. I'm not sure how much time you do get off from work so that could be a concern also. I really don't have a good answer for you since there are pros and cons to both times. I waited one cycle between my 1st and 2nd IVF and felt my body had "recharged" enough. I would chose the least stressful of the two times because having extra added stress isn't going to help matters.

I don't have any personal experience, but I think having a distraction is good because it takes your mind off of all the chaos of IVF. Being in a wedding, even if it isn't yours, is stressful and you always want to look your best. I would maybe do Christmas. It's a great distraction and all the good will and cheer will put you in good spirits with a positive attitude. I understand about wanting to keep things private, but maybe letting some of your family know will give you a stronger support system?? We kept things secret for about a year, but recently started telling some closer family members about our struggle. They have been a great support for us and I'm glad we told them.

i jumped right on in after our BFN, once i got my period, i started on the pills and it wasn't totally ideal (timing wise, it was 2 days before thanksgiving when i'd found out if it worked or not) and my sister had just announced her pregnancy right before our 1st cycle ended in a BFN.... but it worked out. This time, we're gearing up for round #2, we've been debating if we should transfer in Dec or Jan....i was worried about christmas as well, but keep thinking i'd have to take off less work and i'd be busy...... we still might do a dec transfer, but i know if it results in a BFN, that i'll jump right back in again... I agree that you need to do it when you will be less stressed.

So I had my appt with my RE on Thursday. It went as well as it could. I really do love my RE- he's so compassionate and even offered to find the Bravelle and Menopur for us to reduce our costs since we are paying OOP.

We are going to stim a little slower this time- to let the follies grow a little slower which will hopefully will get us a smaller amount of eggs, but more mature eggies. We're aiming for 20ish. Last time we got 32 but many of them were too immature to fertilize. The timing for this cycle is actually perfect. I didn't know this, but the lab our RE uses closes the last 2 weeks of the year for deep cleaning so they stop starting cycles after the end of Oct. It made my decisions pretty easy about when to begin this cycle! So I start BCP when AF shows- which will hopefully be Wednesday. Trying to mentally gear up to go through this again... hopefully all this holiday season stuff coming up adds an extra distraction.

Good luck Meg! I don't know about you, but I've already started thinking about starting to Christmas shop so maybe the holidays will provide a much needed distraction!

Glad you were able to meet with your RE and come up with a different plan. That works out nice that the schedule of the clinic made the decision for you of when to cycle. Good luck.

I really think the holidays will make this cycle go by faster. I hope this cycle works great for you.
