So lots of follies today at the u/s ranging from 9-13. They want to see bigger size obviously so I will be on stims today and tomorrow with another u/s on Wed. Depending on what they see, they are predicting a Friday ER.

On a side note- I love my RE. He is a part of a practice with 3 male RE's an 1 female RE. Of course, it varies what doc you see depending on when you are there. Even though we have been there for 1.5 years- I had never met the female RE until today. I heard not so great things about her but was willing to suspend my judgement until I interacted with her. I love ALL three other male RE's so it was hard for me to believe I wouldn't like her to- but man did she just give me a bad feeling. First, she came in and pretending like we met before and I told her it was the first time. Then, she didn't turn the screen to me so I could see what she was doing in the u/s. I have NEVER had this happen! All the other RE's always turn the screen and talk me through everything so I can see my uterus and ovaries. I can see all the follies and how big they are measuring. She, on the other hand, was deathly quiet. Gave me no information beyond "you have lots of eggs." Luckily, I knew the nurse would debrief me as they always do but all the other RE"s always give me the specific info too. It is so nice to just hear it from them directly. So she wasn't outright rude or anything- I just didn't get a good feeling. If for by some reason, she is scheduled to do my ER I am going to request another doc because the last thing I want is to be stressed about her performed the already not so pleasant procedure.

Glad to hear things are moving along. Will be thinking good thoughts for you with your retrieval. It's to bad about the RE and her stinginess with giving you any information. This is definitely a field in which a little compassion and information go a long way to make you feel comfortable. I know it's important to have good skills also, but it is so much better when the doctor comes with a good bedside manner as well! Hopefully you won't have to see her Friday, or any other time soon!

    Meg-
How exciting!! Sounds like things are going pretty good. That is annoying that the female RE didn't even have the screen facing you. I thought they always did that. It makes you feel in the loop for what is going on with you!!! You deserve to see it. Lots of luck with your stims and crossing my fingers those follies keep growing!!

Of the docs in the group you'd think the female would be the most compassionate and caring. Sorry you had a bad experience with her. At least if she does the ER, you'll be asleep for it. RE's never did any of my u/s, it was always a nurse and I understand what you mean. I had some bad nurses. One of which didn't tell me what was going on in my ovaries and turned the screen away also. I left there so discouraged since I had no clue what was going on. Update us after your u/s tomorrow.

Glad things are coming along!! Hopefully they can get some nice big eggs from you this time. In my REs office I did not get a good feeling about one of the docs; and the doc who did my ER I had never met until the procedure. Needless to say I was a little freaked out by that... but he got all the eggs and I wasn't too sore afterwards, so he obviously had the technical expertise to do the job. And really, that is what this all boils down to - expertise at helping you get pregnant. In related news, I don't know how someone can make it in the practice of reproductive medicine if they do not have a good personality and good nurses. We all pay so much and there are other places to go- even if you have to travel a ways.

So good news- the RE that did my ER last time (who is not my primary RE but I still really like him) is scheduled to do my ER on Friday. He also did my u/s today. Glad I only will have that one interaction with the female RE that time.

Meg- I know with many practices the nurses do the u/s and I am thankful that I get to see the RE's more often! I wish I would be asleep for my RE. My practice doesn't do any type of serious sedation. I will take a Zanex 2 hours before the ER and then get a shot of Demerol in the rear end about 45 min. before the procedure and that's it. Last time, it didn't do much for me. I was very aware the entire time and could have easily got up and walked around if I could have lol Not looking forward to the pain again.. but oh well. I joked w/ the nurse about wanted a bit more meds since I'm a bigger girl (I'm 5'10") but she said they will stay with the same dose as last time. Sometimes the Demerol causes nausea and they want to avoid that I guess. I am jealous that they don't give us the good stuff!!

Tiffany- I know what you mean about RE's and nurses needing good personalities- that should be another test they have to pass

As for all the fun facts- Estradiol today was 2,900. I had 14 big follies on the left and 6 big follies on the right. ER is schedules for 10:00am on Friday. I most nervous, besides the ER pain, about the phone call on Saturday morning with the fertilization report. Last time, I was totally unprepared for the bad news we got (out of 32 eggs, only 5 fertilized) so I'm really hoping for a better outcome on that front. I'll keep you all updated!

Good luck with your ER tomorrow!! I always dreaded the fert. report phone call the next day because mine was never good news. I'm sorry that you don't get sedated for the ER. I was 1/2 awake during my first one and I thought it was awful. I'll be thinking about you. Glad you don't get the female doc for your ER. Update us tomorrow after your ER.

I hope things work out better this time. I still think it is C-R-A-Z-Y what they do to sedate you. A little zofran pretreatment could get rid of the nausea associated with demerol. I am so thankful that my clinic did not do it that way. I would complain from the mountain tops about that... after I am sure I would never have to go back. Our REs always did the measuring of the follicles - it is pretty important to get it right. They're doing ICSI right?
