IVF #2 update

Thanks for all the well wishes ladies. I’m sitting in bed recovering. Cramping a lot more than I did last time. So they only got 8 eggs. I cried a lot in the room right after- but I’m doing better now. It just goes to show you how different each cycle can be. Last time they got 32 but only 5 fertilized and the embies didn’t develop well. I’m hoping these 8 are a lot better quality than the ones we got last time. Quality more important than quantity right? I’m happy it was today on a Friday so I have the entire weekend to relax. A little scared about the phone call tomorrow morning with the fert. report but trying to stray positive.

Tiffany- I know what you’re saying about the sedation… this time was even more rough. Hoping this is the last time I will ever have to go through it! And no we are not doing ICSI. We did last time only because we were a part of a study our lab was doing and ICSI was required for the study. No MF problems with DH so they are fert. the normal way.

Glad you are at home and recovering. I truely believe it's quality over quantity. These 8 eggs may be the best whereas last cycle your 32 eggs were "so-so." Update us after your phone call tomorrow.

In ours they got only 7 eggs. We did have male factor so we opted for ICSI, but there is evidence of higher birth defects with ICSI - so even though it might result in better numbers at the get-go, it could be associated with more problems later. I am hoping you get good news with the fertility report. Try not to worry too much, it only takes 1 for success! Obviously your chances are much higher with this than other fertility treatments (i.e. IUI) given the number of eggs retrieved.

Fert. report was good. All 8 fertilized but 2 were abnormal (one had 3 and one had 4 pro nuclei) so we are left with 6 embies. I prepared myself for the worst but the report definitely exceeded my expectations. I'm set for a 3dt on Monday. I was really hoping we could have the chance to do a 5dt this time... but that's ok. Hoping the 6 continue to grow normally.. will hear more tomorrow morning!
