I wonder if they will even do a SA since they have to surgically obtain the sperm and then do ICSI... seems kind of pointless. I don't think that since they cannot obtain sperm the old-fashioned way they could do IUI, but I could be wrong. How exciting - only two weeks away.
We had two transferred based on their recommendations, but two babies would/will be overwhelming... I had mixed thoughts on it. We are moving this summer to a place that has no RE and with my job going for more cycles would have been difficult. Of course bed rest and raising twins will be difficult as well if that is how it turns out. How many the transfer usually depends on the age of the mother and the condition of the embryos, and how aggressive your IVF doc is. SET (single embryo transfer) still does not have as good of chances in our area as transferring two.
Hi there. I don't have any input on how it works post-vasectomy, but hope you get good answers at your consultation.
I was pretty unprepared with questions when I had my first consultations. I was somewhat shocked and in denial that I actually needed IVF. I was overwhelmed when we first started too. I think if you plan ahead with a notebook, list of questions like previous people posted it will be very helpful.
I had a single embryo transfer. We had several 5 day embryos, and my doctor said we had a 50% chance of success transferring one, 60% chance of success transferring two, and if I did get pg, a 30% chance of twins. I really think it depends a lot on the quality of the embryos and you don't know that until right before the transfer. My husband was very unwilling to accept the risk of twins, and although I would have transferred two, deep down I know he would be very overwhelmed with twins. It was the best decision for us to just transfer one. We got lucky, and I am pregnant with one baby. However, my first IVF failed with a single, 3 day embryo. I probably would have pushed for transferring more if it had been a 3 day transfer the second time around, but we made it to day 5. At any rate, it is a very personal decision. I would just make sure you are both willing to take on multiples if that's how it turns out.
Good luck! Waiting is the hardest part! I am new to all is and am just days away from starting my first round ofinjections. Def write down our questions before your appt and take the paper with you... It was a god send for me. As for the how many embryos questio, i know my clinic is very determined to only do SET, ut like the other ladies said, it can depend on the quality of the embryos and other circumstances. DH and I are both ok with the risk of multiples, but thats a very personal decision we made over many discussions. Hang in there!
I think everyone is different.... Depends on your body, the drugs you will be on, etc i think.
I am doing a flare protocol, i waited 2 months before getting offered treatment, then starting BCP at my first period after. I took my last pill yesterday, then start one injection in 2 days and 2 other injections in 5 days. But i know there are so many variations.
