IVF Grads: The First Trimester

For all of you in the first trimester - feel free to post here. We realize that the first few weeks after your BFP is scary - scratch that - the first few months and years Smile So feel free to talk amongst yourselves and support one another. I mean really, who understands your fears more than a fellow IVFer?

Em - I would consider it a thread that it is okay for a siggy to be on. Everyone coming here knows that there are pregnant siggies inside. Smile

Just an update on the cramping. The menstrual-type cramps are gone and are replaced by the cramps that I'm used to - the twinges, pulls, tugs, etc. It almost feels like gas, when you have gas in your intestines, if that makes sense. I'm ok with those types of cramps, and they actually do make me feel better.

I feel like after m/c, you become very tuned in to all the little things going on with your body - even though I swear alot of it is completely in my head and not really happening. I'm happier today now that the menstrual cramping is gone.

Now for a gross question which is WAY TMI!!! Is anyone having Crinone discharge, that might be odd-colored? EWWWW. That is SO GROSS! It gives me the heebie-jeebies and it's coming out of my OWN body! Nurse said it was normal, but I've never heard anyone on the boards complain about it.

TMI alert

Yes to Crinone uckiness...better than Prometrium suppositories, though...that was a yellowish, slimy discharge (just the word "discharge" is yucky). And it gets spongy, too. I am such a freak, I check my tp every time and would wonder if the sponginess was yellow, brown, pink, etc just to make sure it was okay...to be honest, since I got pregnant with Gabe in 2006 (yes, for almost 4 years now), I think I got into the habit of checking tp and do it automatically...how weird is that!

Hey Girls!

Christy ~ I'm not on the Crinone, but Endometrium suppositories. I don't have a problem with them being weird... the "leakage" is just. plain. gross. (sorry - TMI). The color is normal. Very white.... almost like excessive creamy CM.

AFM ~ My spotting FINALLY stopped on Sunday. I am so happy. Now I just have some very strange cramping. It doesn't hurt. It's just there. It's not like AF cramps. I can't explain it. The fatigue has definitely set in. Around 2pm every afternoon, I hit a brick wall. My indigestion is intense - especially first thing in the morning and the evenings. My u/s is a week from tomorrow and I cannot wait!!!!

Christi, Yay for normal cramps. I'm on crinone but I don't notice any discharge from it, but from the estradiol. I'm doing estradiol vaginally, and my discharge is bluish. It's pretty much chunks rather than creamy discharge

Jana, glad the spotting stopped. Can't wait to hear about your ultrasound

Jana - Glad to hear the spotting has stopped. My ultrasound is the day before yours - next Thursday! YAY for us! Yahoo

We'll soon know if we have healthy singletons or twinkies in there - causing us so much stress. DH likes to talk to the "babies" already and he's been chastising them lately for making me such a crazy person. I told DH that it's only the beginning... LOL!

Jana- Glad the spotting stopped. I had a friend that did IVF and spotted for quite a while! We go to the same RE and he did an u/s everytime she was worried before her release LOL

I'm having a major freak-out. I woke up this morning and felt really GOOD. I'm no longer in that weird fog I've had for a few weeks. I've lost most of my symptoms - my bbs don't hurt today, NO cramps at all, and still no m/s. I just know something is wrong. Sad

I'm flying to New York tomorrow for work and won't be back until my sonogram on Thursday, so I have to suffer through the next three days until I find out what's going on. Has anyone ever lost their symptoms completely and things worked out ok? This has happened to me before obviously, so I think I know what comes next.

I have had many days where my symptoms totally disappear and if i didn't know i was pregnant I wouldn't know i was... kwim. Try to relax I realize it must be hard with your history of losses. But I am sure even totally healthy pregnancies have days with no symptoms. i know mine sure has. :big hug:

Morning Girls!!!

Christi ~ I have days where my symptoms are less prevalent than others. I'm extremely tired all the time. I am nauseous at different times during the day. It's not overwhelming, but just enough (deep in the back of my throat) so that I know it's there.

My DH, as sweet as he is, bought a "pregnancy for dad's" book. Bless his heart... I'm so happy that he is so interested in this pregnancy, but if he sites one more fact from the book, I just might strangle him! LOL!

I KWYM, Christi. Friday, I went to the bathroom, wiped, and bright red blood. Called hubby, told him to get home NOW, (I had our son with me), called my OB's office, completely freaked out. Crying on the phone with the oncall midwife, told her about IVF, symptoms just about gone, etc. Convinced her to send me for an u/s...hubby and I and Gabe went to the u/s office and luckily, all was well, no reason for the bright red blood. It disappeared same day, but really freaked me out. I need to relax about this pregnancy, but with few symptoms, hard to not worry. I am going to try to not worry and relax...I have my 1st tri screening u/s on May 10 (2 weeks!!) so hopefully all stays uneventful and I can remain relaxed. Sigh. I really don't remember being this anxious when pg with Gabe.

I'm feeling better today, but still worried. The cramps are back, as are my symptoms. I don't remember having symptoms come and go in my other pregnancies. My u/s is this Thursday, so I'm really excited to see what's going on!

Jana - Isn't your u/s on Friday!? I wonder if we both have twinkies or just perfect little singletons. Also, my DH bought a book called "My boys can swim" with pics of sperm all over the cover. He read it in like two days - highlighting all these different parts, but never really told me anything about what he read. Hmmm...?

This weekend I lost all my pg symptoms, and yesterday I was sure that something was wrong. This morning the symptoms came back though, which is a little reassuring. I'm not sure when they'll do another u/s, so I really have no idea what's going on down there. Can't wait to be out of the first trimester and start feeling some movement so I can enjoy this pregnancy.

Dani - Do you have morning sickness at all? When will they let you know about the next u/s? When do you expect it to happen? It's so hard after being with an RE to go back to your OBGYN. They just don't give you the same amount of information and you feel so in the dark! I hope you can see your babies again soon. Smile

Christi ~ Yes, my u/s is on Friday! I'm very impatiently waiting for it to get here! I can't wait to see how many babies I'm having! Some days I think there is only one in there, but other days I think two. I can't tell you what gives these impressions though. There more research I do and the more I see other peoples betas at the same # of days past ovulation, the more I think it will be only one. What are your thoughts. I know are levels were very close to each others. I didn't get a 3rd though. Now I wish I had.

Speaking of ObGyn's, when will your RE's release you? I know I will stay with my RE until I'm 12 weeks. This is because I'm part of a progesterone study.

No morning sickness at all, thankfully. I get a yucky taste in my mouth after eating that just annoys me. I have to brush my teeth and tongue every couple hours, and that makes me gag...but it's from the toothbrush.
I'm already seeing the Ob but I haven't graduated from the RE yet. On wednesday I have appointments with both. At the RE, they'll draw blood to check hormone levels to start weaning me from the meds, which is a relief because I really hate the estrogen pills down my hoo-haa. I'm still doing estrogen and crinone 2x a day . I think they'll still do one more u/s closer to 12 weeks to release me.
Then on thursday I have an OB appt, but have no idea what they'll do...probably just go over the whole lot of bloodwork they did. I think the OB will schedule me for my NT scan in a week or 2. So in the next couple of weeks, I'll get a few peeks at my babies.

Jana ~ I can't wait to hear about your u/s. I had the same back and forth feelings as you. All the research doesn't help either. You have to let us know as soon as you can

Dani - I'm also still doing Crinone and estrogen in the va-jayjay. I'm pretty tired of it, but it's just become part of my routine. YAY for seeing your babies soon!

Jana - My RE will release me at about 8 weeks, but will continue doing the progesterone monitoring. That's awesome that you can stay with the RE until 12 weeks! Smile

Wow, I just found this thread... YAY!

I am doing crione...... it comes out in large globs sometimes, but never really gets on my panties. I have been on endometrin and it leaked everywhere.
I HATED THE Estrace... Made me have smurf muffin. I have only taken that once I am not on that now.

I am crampy too. I have waves a nausea, but no throwing up. I am eating like I have never ate before!!!!

Candice ~ I'm glad you finally found this thread!!! It's been kind of slow and I was wondering where all the 1st trimester girls disappeared to! I'm not quite ready to join the December BB yet. I lurk all the time. I might feel better about it after my u/s on Friday.

I'm on endometrin and I agree... the leakage is terrible!!! I have been wearing panty liners, but there are times during the day that I wish I had a light weight pad on. On occasion it feels like I wet myself... Lovely, huh? I still have another 6 weeks of it.

Question...
Since I am not under the care of my RE and I am not sure to ask... But um when can me and DH... ahh humm.... get busy again? I have been really wanting to, but am scared to death to at the same time. DH is scared too. I think he will have to hear it from the docs mouth that it is ok, but what have your REs said?
I had a touch of OHSS too so that is another reason that I am worried.

Also when can you resume all normal things. DH wont even let me bend over to pick things up because he heard a nurse at the RE say it, I told him that was only to begin with, i think... He is being a little over protective...

Oh, Candice! We resumed DTD around a week after transfer (which was the guideline our RE gave us). I can understand being cautious, but I really think it's totally fine to go ahead and resume all normal activity. My DH actually found an article somewhere (though he never showed me) saying that when IVF embryos were "rocked" before transfer, they had a higher pregnancy rate. The thinking being, that embryos want to be in an active body! And while I was resting after my last transfer, I researched the benefits of bedrest for IVF people post-transfer, and it seems that there's no evidence to support resting so much. My RE said I could resume things like yoga 4 days after transfer (there's a lot of bending there!) and my usual exercise (even running and yeah, gymnastics, within reason--like no jumping off of really high things), as long as it was what my body was used to. So just don't do anything that might strain your body, go with what your body's accustomed to.

With my son, we were allowed to DTD 3 days after the 3dt. With this pg, my RE never said anything. We DTD when I got the BFP and felt more comfortable. I found the same research as Andi. As long as you are not too rough, it's fine. And don't be alarmed if you spot a little after...your cervix is sensitive.

Because of this same reason I went back to wearing light pads (panty liners don't do the trick). Who would have thought, that after so many years trying to not use them anymore I would have to wear them all the time

Candice ~ I'm so happy to see you here! We got the all clear to have sex (mind you not bd anymore!) when we saw the heartbeats at 7 weeks. Have fun! I was told I could exercise as long as it's not high impact (walking, swimming, yoga, etc). I was also told not to wear high heels:dontknow:

That is weird! I've never heard that. I wear heels for work, so I wonder if I should stop!?

We haven't DTD since the transfer. I think that DH is scared of "hitting the baby". I told him not to worry about it, but frankly, I haven't felt in the mood. I feel very fat, frumpy and lazy lately - definitely not sexy.

My sonogram is tomorrow!!! I can't wait to see the baby and the heartbeat. I hope that eases my and DH's minds a little, and we can get on with being happy and pregnant!

Flakimbi, I think no high heels b/c your growing belly can cause your center of gravity to shift and make you more susceptible to falls. Maybe increaisngly so b/c of the twins?

I initially thought of this, but I was told about this before knowing it was twins. And I would think the center of gravity starts shifting a little later, no? Doesn't matter, though...I'm not much of a heel wearer and I would do anything to make sure these 9 months go by smoothly.

Some great news...I officially graduated from RE!!!
It's a little weird, but I'm happy nonetheless. I went in today to check hormone levels, so they could start weaning me from the meds, but I was still expecting to go back until 12 weeks.
Well, I just got the call and I'm now off estradiol :yahoo:. I will have to continue crinone for 2 more weeks, but I don't mind this at all.
I asked what was the next step, and she said I don't have to go back anymore. That's it. Just a goodbye and good luck. Weird.
Oh well, that's a goodbye I very much wanted, so I'm beyond excited!

So you all are telling me that I can do the deed with a swollen ovary and fluid on my right side?????? I know that you can resume sex after ivf, but what if you have ohss?
My husband is not an average man either.... How do I bring that up to my doc with out blushing?

Christi- Cant wait to hear about your U/S!!!!!!!

I still wear heels but they kill my hips.....

Whoo hoo for leaving the RE!!! I think I was pushed out of the nest to early Biggrin

As far as high heels go.... I was told not to wear them the 2 weeks following my transfer - up until my first beta. I didn't ask the reasoning, I just did it. I have always worn heels to work. I have started wearing them again, but only about 1/2 the time.

My DH and I have not DTD since before my retrieval. They told me to abstain up until my 1st beta. Since I had that spotting for about a week, I got scared. I told DH that I will feel better about it if I can get a little further along and have no spotting. The spotting is gone now, but I think I want to wait a couple more weeks. It totally makes me nervous!

Not sure about ohss. I wouldn't think it would be a problem, though, just uncomfortable if you still have swelling.
Are you still having symptoms?
