Latest update - May 18 (latest post #48)

Hey everyone, after I posted about seeing only 3 follicles and the fertility dr telling me there was a chance no eggs could be retrieved, things are looking a little better..... My U/S yesterday showed 4 large follicles and 3 smaller ones all on the right ovary. This fertility dr was different from Sat, and said that it still wasn't good for someone at 41 yrs of age, did I still want to go through with IVF? Um....heck yeah!!!! So more doses of stuff and then went to today's U/S. At least 2 of the follicles are large enough now (2.1 and 1.95) with a couple more almost there (I think 1.6 and 1.4 but I'm not sure), all on the right ovary. The 3 smaller ones are also growing but they don't think it will be large enough in time. What was surprising about today's U/S was that a view of the left ovary showed 1 large follicle (I think 1.75) and a few smaller ones. They will try to ER this one but b/c of the endo, they may not be able to get to it, plus quality is an issue. Last couple of U/S they didn't think anything was happening on the left ovary. Now we are proceeding with ER on Saturday morning. I got HCG to inject tomorrow, still have to do gonal-f and luveris and suprefact today. Gotta find a babysitter or something for DD Sat morning. Ahhhhh!!!! Stress!!!!! Now I know this may not work out at ANY time...but for now, it's hopeful. A lot more hopeful than I expected. I'm grateful and I feel blessed. I'll be back to comment tonight, gotta go back to the clinic for supplies!

Just came back from ER...I'm sore in the ovaries, although I think it's more the bloating irritating them than anything else....

Looking even more up again:

1st U/S - 3 follicles, dr said "high chance" that they wouldn't be able to retrieve ANY eggs

2nd U/S - 4 follicles, dr said "this is not ideal" for a 40 year old woman (although I'm actually 41, but whatevs)

3rd U/S - 5 follicles, dr said "We're gonna work with 4 follicles, maybe 5" but the last one was on the left ovary, and it was questionable whether they could even get to it.

TODAY - ER - got 8 eggs. 6 were mature and 2 intermediate.

I want to thank all of you for praying and sending good vibes my way...still a long way to go but at least we cleared the first hurdle.

It was better than ANY expectations I've ever had about this.

Margaret, thanks!

Tiffany, thanks! So far not bad at all, still off and on sore in the ovaries, a little bleeding down there. Pretty sure it's just all the poking and prodding. The fertility dr doing the ER apparently poked a couple more times than usual in an attempt to grab every mature egg he could find in the ovary...hence the 8 I guess.

I was really pleased to hear that he was able to obtain 2 eggs from the left ovary (the one with the huge endo cyst), apparently that ovary is still working somewhat. Last U/S only one large follicle there and they weren't even sure if they could get the egg from there. Wasn't too bad apparently b/c my left ovary doesn't hurt, it's my right ovary.

Got a really good call to start the day!! 7 out of the 8 eggs fertilized, so at least one of the two intermediate eggs must have matured. Happy for today!

I think my dr has recommended a 3dt b/c I'm 41. I know this sounds kind of crazy, but right after ER, we actually talked to the embryologist about considering a 5dt if everything goes really well, b/c we really want only 1 max 2 babies and higher chance of success. I'm scared what will happen if they put 3-4 in, which is what they normally suggest for women over 35 years old (or so I understand). Embryologist said that the fertility medical team (drs and nurses and etc) all meet to chat every single day apparently about how to proceed based on the embies' condition, and that's when they will decide/recommend 3dt vs 5dt. I think we will probably go with the dr's recommendation but max 2 embies....of course assuming everything goes well, the team can give us an option etc etc.

We'll see. Of course, when it comes right down to it, we may completely change our minds about everything.

Shauna LOL - thanks for stalking me! Sorry I've not been at dailymile for a long time but there is just nothing to say when I'm not exercising. And I've gained a few lbs since, ugh.

I got the phone call from the embryologist today that we now have 6 embryos, all looking good, and they are going to transfer 3 embies into me tomorrow afternoon. If they can they will try to freeze the others, but hard to say how many will be left or if they will survive the freezing. So soon!! I hope that everything will work out.

Oh my goodness - thank you so much, ladies!! You are all making me a bit emotional and teary-eyed....

Our ET went well this afternoon. Still have the 6 embies, but the best 3 were transferred: a 7 cell, an 8 cell, and a 12 cell!!! Apparently 8 cell embryos are what they expect, so this 12 cell is rather unusual. Embryoloist says that the 12 cell is just growing ahead of the others and that's it's no problem. I hope he's right....

The 3 other embies, I can see why they aren't sure if they'll be able to freeze them: a 5 cell, a 6 cell and a poor quality embie. They will grow them to Day 6 and see if any of them become blastocytes; if so, then they'll freeze them.

I'm just relaxing at home now. I was gonna go to work tomorrow to attend a 2 day course but decided that this is too important for me, so I'll just relax at home for the rest of the week...and into the May long weekend....and not come back until next Tuesday. It's not like I don't have things to do at home (without overdoing of course!).

Awesome! You have good odds with 3 transferred. I will be sending good vibes and sticky thoughts your way. Don't worry about what will freeze... what happens with them is beyond our control... unfortunately.

Smile so happy for you.

Thanks ladies, I'm glad I can share these with you, as I haven't had a chance even to tell my sister yet!

I got a call this afternoon from the embryologist - they were able to freeze one embie. I am happy...although I'll be happier still I can get good news on May 30 or thereafter....

One frozen embie is good! Right after my ET, I keep telling the babies to grow strong. Visualizing them burrowing in, growing, etc. Smile

Think positive thoughts! Smile
