Menopur experience

I posted an update on my other thread, but just found out that I will be taking follistim along with menopur. Anyone here take menopur before, and are there any side effects. I have to do this combo for 4 nights and go back Friday which has me a little uneasy since I always went every other day. UGH! I'm already stressed and its' only day 1!!!!

I had to use menopur for at least 3 nights... I think it was even longer than that..

Not sure which, but I think the follistim stung a bit. I did not have any effects whatsoever of using menopur except maybe increased appetite... or was that the stress?

It is a pretty common drug to use with IVF.

And please take a deep breath and remember you are doing everything you can!!

I did follistim last cycle and it was very easy the one that stung was the ganarillex...that one actually hurt a bit and my belly would stay a little red and sore aftewards. Waiting for DH so we can go pick them up.

I used Menopur for a couple cycles. I think what I remember most about it was that it stung a bit and made the injection sites more sore than my other shots. I just made sure I rubbed the site after. I don't remember any side effects that were any different than other meds. Your RE probably wants to get you started and knows there isn't going to be too much going on until Friday. The first few days things will grow slow. Congrats on already having 10 follies!!

I did menopur+bravelle for my first cycle, then menopur+gonal F for the second cycle. I mixed them together both times and did one injection. I'm pretty sure I used them both for the whole time I did stims, then added ganirelix at some point. The stim injection didn't bother me, usually, if I did it right, but I had the same stinging and redness with the ganirelix.

Sounds like the stims are doing their job! Will keep following you for updates!

What a disaster mixing those meds yesterday!! Sad We just coudn't get the meds in the needle without a giant bubbly no matter how many taps how many tries, then finally, DH mananged to do it after like 20 tries. Not looking forward to tonight. Any tricks?

Hmmmm......for the dry meds, they had me mix in the liquid (and the gonal F when I did that) and mix it. Since I did that, it didn't matter if there was a little air coming from the gonal F. For the injection, I turned the little bottle of mixed medication over and sucked it into the syringe down to the end by moving the needle down a little to the bottom of the bottle. I do remember occasionally having to turn the needle/syringe totally upward and pushing the air out a little before injecting.

I know on occasion I lost a little drop or two trying to do it exactly right, and once a little more than a drop with the ganirelix-it didn't matter.

Hope it goes better tonight!

I would lightly tap the syringe to try to get the bubbles out, but I didn't even worry about them until the very end..

I too lost drops of medicine.. just something that had to happen to get the air out of the syringe. When you are dealing with tiny short needles, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

You made it through the first night of it... it is going to be ok!

Hope that last night was better for you! When we were doing the IUIs at our other clinic, I was on Menopur. I do remember it being a pain to mix everything. DH thought it was cool though because it reminded him of a chemistry experiment. But he's a nerd like that Wink
I did have to take it for a few days as a last effort push with our last procedure. I think that the RE is going to add it much earlier this time. I don't have any other suggestions to add other than what's been said. Good luck!

UGH, definite nausea all day today. Was much worse this morning and has been off and on all day. I just had a granola bar and I feel a bit better. My pants are already a bit snug at my hip, so it begins. I had finally gotten back to normal in terms of bloat and now its starting all over again but I'm not complaining. Smile

The mixing is much better. We are using the Q-cup or tip, I forget the name instead of using the syringe. It's much much easier. I got to say this needle stings a bit, which is strange because the first day it was nothing. Don't know what's going on.

Sorry you haven't been feeling too hot today. At least you know the meds are working though. I've never heard of a Q-cup but I'm glad it's easier for you to mix. Do you go tomorrow to get checked?

Hey. Well I went this morning and no new follicles but the majority are growing well. There were 3 that were def. behind in growth, all in all it was good. I may have to start the cetrocide this evening because there was one follicle that was big so she wants to make sure I don't ovulate. I got a little nervous but she didn't seem concerned...LOL! ER is scheduled for either Thurs/Friday, this time around she definitely made this cycle longer. Last cycle I did ER on CD 11, this time will be about CD 14 or 15. Waiting to see when I go back, I'm assuming Mon or Tues.

On a side note, (PREG MENT) there was a lady that I'm assuming just found out she was pregnant with twins. THis lady was bursting with happiness, it was awesome to see her. She just sat there in amazement staring at the U/S pics taking pics with her cell phone and texting them. I was able to get a look at the U/S from where i sat and I can clearly see two sacks, it was a beautiful sight! Smile i was so happy for her. She made my morning! LOL! Smile

I'm glad things are growing. Sometimes I think slow and steady wins the race. My last cycle I stimmed for much longer than my previous two and I had the most amount of mature eggs from that cycle. That's cool that you got to experience the excitement of the other pt. Gives you hope.

Strange...

Just got a call from the clinic that I need to start the cetrocide tomorrow morning and bring the HCG shot on Monday morning. So that means I'm triggering sometime Monday, which mean ER will be Tuesday or Wednesday morning. My BW must have shown something different which made her change her mind. I think even on all these meds my body just wont go past a certain day when ovulating it's so strange. DH swears I don't know what I'm talking about but I just proved him wrong. LOL! I will be sure to ask what happend.

When I did my first IUI cycle with Clomid I told my RE that I usually ovulate early and he guarenteed the Clomid would make it so I didn't. Lo and behold, I ovulated early like I normally did. That cycle ended up being canceled since the whole ovulation discussion came about because he was going to be out of town and he'd be back before I'd ovulate. Sometimes we know our bodies better than others.

I think ceterocide is like lupron. My doc has us take that the entire cycle and one bottle was not very expensive. That way there are no accidental ovulations. I don't think this will happen to you, but it does make you realize there are different protocols with different pros/cons.

Hey I'm home. We got 13 eggs, and they will be doing ICSI. I will find out tomorrow how many fertilized and I have to call Monday morning to see if I go for the transfer, it not it will be Tuesday for sure.

Def. cramping this time around and more bleeding. I was spotting a little last cycle but this time, it's a bit more. They told me it was okay because I got scared when I used the bathroom over there and I passed a clot and the blood is very bright red. It's getting better so that makes me feel better. Just took 2 tylenols and I'm relaxing on the sofa. We may go catch a movie later this evening, not sure yet.

Now the next nerve wrecking part....

Hoping for the best. We did ICSI and I was very glad we did. Hope you get a good fertilization report. Agree with PP, if you are cramping, be sure to let your body heal up after this.
