Default New to this Board - loss ment

    Hi everyone,

My name is Harmony and I am probably going to be joining you gals on here. Quick run-down on me:

My hubby and I live in Northern Alberta, we have 1 DS who is 2 1/2 years old (concieved via Clomid & IUI). I had 1 missed m/c in Feb '06 and a natural m/c in May '11. We have been TTC since 2004. DH has below avg motility, I have mild case of endo and the Dr told me that my ovaries are acting about 10 years older than I am (I'm 32). So, basically he highly recommended us to go IVF this year as I probably don't have many years left of good fertility.

So, this week DH and I are off to our very first IVF consultation appointment and I am terrified. The closer it gets the more anxious I am about everything. Any advice???

Thanks and I look forward to getting to know some of you. Best wishes to everyone!

Welcome! I'm glad you found us because this board will be a huge help to you. I'm so sorry for your losses and your struggles at TTC. I would write any questions you have for your RE down. I always get nervous and all the questions in my head are gone by the time I'm sitting in front of the RE.

IVF is draining in many ways...emotionally, physically, financially and pyschologically. It can be hard on your relationship but stay strong for eachother. Take one day at a time. It's a rollarcoaster ride. One day (or minute) you'll feel so optimistic and the next, you'll be feeling so down.

Feel free to ask any questions here, even vent here. Someone will have an answer for you. The knowledge on this board is amazing. It's sad that it's so knowledegable because that means that everyone here has gone through so much since we know what we know from experiences.

    Good luck!

Welcome! Big hugs for your journey so far. As for the appointment, my biggest recommendation would be to take a notepad with you. It really helped for me to have DH jot down notes because when I tend to get overwhelmed, I shut down. Have a list of questions that you particularly want answered. Is your consult with the same RE that you have worked with in the past or is it a different clinic? Good luck with everything. The way I look at it is the greater the risk the greater the reward.

    Thanks ladies!

This is a new clinic - we did our initial IUI/fertility treatment in a clinic closer to us, but we have family in clinic further away and they have a better track record, so I requested a transfer. We farm so my hubby will be most likely staying home to work up until he is NEEDED - and then my son and I have a comfortable place to stay with tons of support which is something I know I will need. I am anxious to meet the RE because I loved my RE in the first clinic - and he was ok with us transferring, which makes me love him more.

I will definitely make my list of questions and take a notepad with me - I'm the same way. I tend to shut down and just "yes/no" everything. Yesterday it hit me what we have gone through and what we're about to go through and I ended up having a meltdown. I am lucky to have supportive family, friends and this board - since I only have one "friend" who has had IVF, but it was someone I met on a TTC board years ago who lives continents away from me. People definitely don't understand or know what to say - some are so excited for this chapter for us and others shut down. I don't blame them.... I can't imagine being in their shoes and knowing what to say that would make someone feel better.

But, I just keep remember that I've been through a lot already and survived and am happy. This next chapter will be a rough road, but I keep envisioning that it will work out

Thanks ladies! best wishes to you both!

Welcome! I hope your stay here is short and sweet
I second what PPs said about taking notes. It is good to have something to go back to after you leave the doctor's office.

Thanks Mimi! I started my question list last night and I'm sure I'll think of more along the way.

Hi Harmony. I remember you as I had an early loss around the time of yours last year. Sorry you've made your way over here as well, but it is a very supportive place! Post away! I wish you the best as you start this process.
