Welcome!! The ladies here are amazing. Feel free to ask any questions...someone on here will have an answer. Between everyone, we've been there done it all!

As far as how long the process takes it really depends on your clinic and protocol. Some clinics only cycle ppl at certain times. Most cycles from start of BCP to finish is about 6 wks if I'm remembering correctly. I did my last IVF cycle 1 1/2 years ago, so I'm not quite clear about that.

It's been a couple of years since I cycled last, too. Part of the length depends on how much testing you have been through. For IVF cycles they require blood testing on both partners and an HSG. Depending on where you are in your cycle you might have to wait for a new cycle to start testing. Seems like once the testing is done it takes about 6 weeks or so. There's a lot of "hurry up and wait" involved. Hope this is the answer for you though!

Your dr will only do that if s/he has a hard time getting the catheter thru your cervix. I did not have to have that done. I did not think it was bad at all, I didnt have ant blockages either so maybe it was "easier" than what others have experienced. I would recommend taking 2 or 3 extra strength tylenol before the procedure.

Good luck...when is it?

Its been a few years since my HSG but I don't remember it being bad at all. Just a little cramping and some leaking afterward. Take pads with you and dress comfortably!!

I'm in the middle of my 2nd cycle. First round was successful with my DS being born 6/12/09. We are now in the middle of a round for baby #2. Round 1 seemed to take months for me. This round has been only 2 months and we had a few delays so it could have taken less time. Our embryo transfer is going to be either tomorrow or wednesday.

:Goodluck:

I took some ibuprofen prior to the HSG (don't remember how much though). I didn't have any blockages so it only took a few seconds for the dye to pass through. I felt strong cramping, but it was brief. My DH got to watch the procedure from a side room (there was a TV monitor that showed the dye passing through my uterus and tubes). I had some leaking as I went from the procedure table to the bathroom where I got dressed. That grossed me out. I remember some cramping afterwards, but it wasn't any worse than the menstrual cramps I had as a teenager.

Welcome! Smile I've had the HSG done twice (two different clinics). The first time I remember cramping. The second time I took ibuprofen (400mg) about 1/2 hour before the procedure and it was completely painless! Not sure if it was the different RE or the ibuprofen. All the best!
