    Name: Melissa
Age: 24 now, 23 at the time
How long have you been TTC: less than year
Diagnosis or any known IF issues: Male Factor - DH paralyzed and IVF was our only option
Have you tried other treatments before IVF: No
How many IVF's did you do before success: successful the 1st time
Protocol (meds taken): Lupron (down cycle), Follistim & Menopur combo, baby aspirin, PIO shots after and then progesterone suppositories
How many eggs retrieved: 10 total, only 6 were viable
How many eggs fertilized: 5..only 3 made it to transfer day
How many days between ER and ET: 3 days
How many and quality transferred: 2 transferred - both good 8 cells
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: A little cramping, but no real symptoms
Did you take a HPT before blood test: Yes..I took one 10 days post transfer and it was positive
What DPO did you got your BFP: 15 days after transfer
    Number of first beta: 1,024!
Number of babies: 2 Boys (Evan & Taylor born 8/14/0
Any words of wisdom that you would pass on to: It is very overwhelming but the women on this board were what got me through the process. Ask anything here..don't be shy! Once you get going though, it's not nearly that bad. And that even if you have a small number of embies on transfer day doesn't mean that you can't be a success. I only had 3 to choose from and two of those are my boys!

    How many eggs fertilized: 7
How many days between ER and ET: 3 days
How many and quality transferred: 2 8 celled. MY RE didn't go by letters but how many cells had formed.
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: Some cramping but that was really it.

What DPO did you got your BFP: POAS was 10 DPT and Beta was 12 DPT
    Number of first beta: 145

Any words of wisdom that you would pass on to: In the begining they throw all this information at you and it is VERY overwhelming. Once I got a handle on everything I stopped worrying about the next steps and only concentrated on what I needed to do that day. It was the only way I could keep sane. I had a calender in my kitchen that had all the notes and info from each phone call from the RE's. It was the one place DH and I could keep track of what was going on tomorrow.

It was an absolutely amazing journey the whole process, and really had me in tune w/ my body and how life really works. As sad as I was about our loss, I gained so much knowledge, and respect for life....I cannot wait until we start our next cycle!! I feel confident we will succeed......even if I'm OVER THE HILL.... ha ha

    Name: Karen
    Age: 32
How long have you been TTC: (embarrassed) only since 8/08
Diagnosis or any known IF issues: After I went off BCP and never got AF, I went to GYN, who graduated me to RE because of PCOS suspicion. After PCOS diagnosis, we also found out both DH and I are carriers for Cystic Fibrosis, therefore giving our potential children a 1 in 4 chance of contracting CF. As a result, we did PGD with our IVF/ICSI.
Have you tried other treatments before IVF: Nope.
How many IVF's did you do before success: First try achieved pregnancy, m/c 2/09, Second attempt was an FET
Protocol (meds taken): 1) Follistim, Ganirelix, Lupron in place of scheduled HCG (E2 was rather high), Climara/Estrogen patches, Estrace, PIO, baby aspirin, prenatal vitamins; 2) FET - Climara patches, Endometrin (Progesterone suppositories; DH out of town and I refuse to sit on PIO needles!!), baby aspirin, prenatal vitamins - so much easier than first try!
How many eggs retrieved: a whopping 42
    How many eggs fertilized: 20
How many days between ER and ET: 5
How many and quality transferred: 2 blastocysts, both times
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: 1) some sore BBs, mostly abdominal pain and heartburn, 2) cramping (presumably from suppositories), implantation bleeding
Did you take a HPT before blood test: 1) yes, but BFN, 2) yes, 2 BFPs and 1 BFN in between
What DPO did you get your BFP: 1) 13dp5dt RE beta blood test, 2) 11dpFET
    Number of first beta: 1) 76, 2) 92
Number of babies: 1) one embryo took, but it was not meant to be; 2) knock on wood!
Any words of wisdom that you would pass on to: everyone's situation is totally different. One day DH was sick, I spent the day on the internet reading "facts" about pregnancy and IVF and 5dt's, only to convince myself that it wouldn't work. Everybody's protocol, doctors, hormone levels, advice, results, symptoms, and everything else is totally personal. Keep the faith and hope for the best!

How long have you been TTC: I was at 4 years when I finally got pregnant
Diagnosis or any known IF issues: Unexplained
Have you tried other treatments before IVF: Yes - IUI with clomid
How many IVF's did you do before success: 2 (first I had a positive beta of 37, which doubled well, but ended in a miscarriage at 7 weeks after 2 weeks of spotting)
Protocol (meds taken): lupron and menapur
    How many eggs retrieved: 9
    How many eggs fertilized: 8
How many days between ER and ET: 3
How many and quality transferred: 2 8 cell
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: dark nipples and VERY tired
Did you take a HPT before blood test: NO!
What DPO did you got your BFP: 16
    Number of first beta: 197
    Number of babies: 1
Any words of wisdom that you would pass on to: Don't get obessed with numbers or what other people responded with compared to you - and TOTALLY AVOID Dr GOOGLE! I stressed myself so much in my first cycle. The second, I tried to stay away form the computer as much as I could, and it was much better.

I also should point out that I am the IF Urban Legand, as my son from the IVF cycle is 4 months old, and I find myself pregnant with twins naturally.

    Age: 39
How long have you been TTC: 4-1/2 years
Diagnosis or any known IF issues: poor egg quality, low sperm morphology
Have you tried other treatments before IVF: clomid and IUI
How many IVF's did you do before success: 3 - this info is for our final cycle. Cycle 1 ended in a chem preg and 2 was a negative
Protocol (meds taken): we were on a ganirelix cycle, menopur and bravelle combo, and PIOHow many eggs retrieved: 12
    How many eggs fertilized: 8
How many days between ER and ET: 4
How many and quality transferred: 2, both were "A" We also did assisted hatching.
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: nothing. I swore I was not pregnant. Pissed me right off.Did you take a HPT before blood test: Yes, after a hissy fit, my DH told me to just POAS already. Shockingly, it was positive.
What DPO did you got your BFP: 7dp4dt
    Number of first beta: 405
    Number of babies: 2
Any words of wisdom that you would pass on to: Don't sweat the numbers too much. It's so easy to obsess over eggs retrieved, how many fertilized, what their grades were, did any make it to freeze, etc...in the end, the best ones get transferred, and I've seen MANY low quality embryos result in healthy babies. You can't lose hope, no matter how discouraging it seems at the time.

Symptoms or issues during 2WW: Crampy and bloated. Sore breasts

What DPO did you got your BFP: 12dp5dt

Any words of wisdom that you would pass on to: Stay positive!! I was very discouraged at first when my follicles were not repsonding well and the stims kept being increased. One nurse even said..."this is only your first time, we'll know better for the next one"! In the end the follicles came around after almost 14 days of stims and we got the best result we could have wished for!!

    Name: Augusta
Age: 30 now, successful IVF at age 27
How long have you been TTC:June, 2005
Diagnosis or any known IF issues: Male factor
Have you tried other treatments before IVF: Nope, moved right to IVF/ICSI
How many IVF's did you do before success: First one worked!
Protocol (meds taken): Lupron, Menopur, Gonal-F
    How many eggs retrieved: 7
    How many eggs fertilized: 6-7
How many days between ER and ET: 3dt
How many and quality transferred: Two, one 8A and one 8B
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: None!
Did you take a HPT before blood test: Of course!
What DPO did you got your BFP: 12dpo
    Number of first beta: 197??
Number of babies: One beautiful boy
Any words of wisdom that you would pass on to: Not really...this stinks, it is worth it if if works, really, really hard if it does not. Out of all three IVF's I have done, my first cycle was textbook "BAD" and the other two were textbook "BETTER" and "BEST"...take home point is that a seemingly "BAD" cycle can be your best...it is all a crap-shoot!

I have tried two 5dt since then, with a chemical pregnancy and a BFN to show for it. We are using the frozen embryos from IVF #3 (only one with viable frosties) and this is our last shot...hoping it works...it will be a 3dt, since this worked for me and the 5dt's did not.

UPDATE: 3dt worked again! We are expecting our last baby, also another boy, around November 17, 2010 and are THRILLED! My advice is to go with your gut: if you think a 3dt or a 5dt is better than what Dr recommends, push for it. GOOD LUCK to all of you still waiting for your BFP...I hope IVF brings you your baby.

    IVF stim cycle 1!

    Name: Emily
Age: 25, was 23 at the time
How long have you been TTC: 2 years
Diagnosis or any known IF issues: severe endometriosis & adenomyosis. Ruptured ectopic resulting in loss of left tube.
Have you tried other treatments before IVF: a year of clomid
How many IVF's did you do before success: 1!
Protocol (meds taken): BCP, synarel nasal spray, Gonal F, Ovidrel, progesterone pessaries.
    How many eggs retrieved: 2
    How many eggs fertilized: 2
How many days between ER and ET: 2
How many and quality transferred: 2 both highest quality
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: itchy nipples!
Did you take a HPT before blood test: yes
What DPO did you got your BFP: 13DPO
    Number of first beta: 172 @ 16DPO
    Number of babies: 1
Any words of wisdom that you would pass on to: I was devastated when I found out that we only got 2 eggs. We were going to cancel the cycle because of my poor reaction to the FSH. My doctor said that all it takes is one, he was so right. My daughter is now almost 2!

    IVF stim cycle 2!

    Name: Emily
    Age: 25
How long have you been TTC: n/a
Diagnosis or any known IF issues: severe endometriosis & adenomyosis. 2 Ruptured ectopics resulting in loss of both fallopian tubes.
Have you tried other treatments before IVF: n/a after loss of both tubes IVF is the only option
How many IVF's did you do before success: 1!
Protocol (meds taken): BCP, synarel nasal spray, Provera, Puregon, Pregnyl (for trigger shot & as luteal support), progesterone pessaries.
    How many eggs retrieved: 7
How many eggs fertilized: 4 fertilised, 2 viable.
How many days between ER and ET: 3
How many and quality transferred: 1, highest quality
Symptoms or issues during 2WW: SEVERE OHSS.
Did you take a HPT before blood test: yes
What DPO did you got your BFP: 13DPO
    Number of first beta: 142 @ 16DPO
Number of babies: 1 (currently 9 weeks pg.)
Any words of wisdom that you would pass on to: This cycle was incredibly difficult for me. We decided that if neither of our 2 embryos took that this would be the end of our IVF journey. The OHSS is horrific. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It has taken a good 8 weeks for me to recover enough to function. We were incredibly lucky that I feel pregnant.
