Pineapple?

So all I've been hearing about is eating pineapple while going through IVF. One woman in a blog I was reading consumed 3 entire fresh pineapples in 2 days! Have you guys heard of this? When exactly are you supposed to be eating pineapple? Before the egg retrieval...after? Or is it closer to the egg transfer? Just thought it was strange and funny...hehe.

I don't think I've ever heard of that so I don't have an answer for you. I think I've heard of women eating pineapple to try to induce labor. I guess we are willing to do anything if it increases our odds for success.

That's true. Raspberry Zinger tea and spicy food are supposed to induce labor too. I wonder if it's just all made up. Some bored people out there who start tales about food that's supposed to do this or that. I also heard that green tea was supposed to help with fertility. I'm here to say that it didn't work for me. I drank 2 cups of green tea everyday for 3 cycles and nothing. Green Tea was a poor substitute for my coffee...hehe.

I drank green tea also. Obviously, it didn't work for me either. I think the only thing that may have worked for me was DHEA. I took it for about 6 cycles while I took a break from IVF. When I went for my 3rd cycle I had the most resting follies at my baseline u/s and most eggs retrieved out of all 3 cycles. But, who knows if it was the DHEA, taking a break and letting my ovaries rest or the different protocol. I think the resting follies was the DHEA though.

I've heard that about the DHEA as well.

Did a little research on this pineapple thing and apparently it isn't all made up. But there wasn't any concrete sources, mostly just blogs and forums. Basically you start eating fresh pineapple the day of transfer and continue for 3 days. You need to eat fresh pineapple and the stuff closest to the core is the best. Apparently, the pineapple has an enzyme that breaks down protein and sometimes there is protein which prevents the eggies from implanting. I say pineapple tastes good and it's good for you so why not?? Wink

I say go for it with the pineapple. It's not going to hurt anything. The hard thing is is that it's hard to prove if the pineapple made the cycle successful. You don't know if it would've been successful without the pineapple. That's probably why there are no concrete answers or explanations to it. The explanation you gave does make sense though.
