I remember waking up and getting ready for college. I turned on the TV and was really confused about what was going on. I went to class and my teacher canceled it for the day. That night I remember cars being lined up down the street at the gas station getting gas because of the fear of having no gas or something.

Sean and I both had the day off of work, I was sleeping and Sean came in and woke me at 6am. He told me I needed to come and watch the news right away. I was so in shock watching CNN. We were glued to the TV for hours and finally dragged ourselves out to the mall so we would stop watching. What did we do there? Watch the news with strangers.

As we are in Canada we were a little removed from things but we did work for an American company. Our general manager had a brother who worked in the Trade Centre and the girl who would be my maid-of-honour had friends there. We were in shock and tried to support our friends. I heard from my one sister, my BIL was working in downtown Toronto in what is Canada's version of Wall Street and she was very frightened.

A year later I heard from my dad that a very good family friend worked at the Trade Centre, he was never late for work in his life but on that day everything went against him and he was running 30 minutes late. He lost many co-workers that day.

This day will stay in our hearts and minds forever.

I was in college and I didn't have any morning classes, so I was sleeping. I had 3 roommates who woke me up around 7ish and told me to watch the news. And that's what we did...all day. All classes were canceled. I remember my Mom calling me hysterical. I had maybe seen/heard her cry twice in my life. I actually had to be the calm one for once. I also remember their being some minor stir about the FERMI Lab (It's a physics/nuclear lab near where I lived) being on lockdown because they were scared something was going to happen to it.

Margaret...stories like your family friend's gives me goose bumps. Someone was looking out for them that day.

My family lived really close to a nuclear power plant with a second one not far away. They were worried about them being hit, either one would have knocked out a lot of power in Toronto and area.

It does for me too. Because I moved away from my family I hadn't heard that this friend and his family had been transferred to NYC. In some ways I am glad that I did not know until later.
