How did DH propose to you?
I believe it was a Thursday night. I was an the call team of nursing staff at the hospital. I was sitting at DH's house and the ER nurse called me saying she needed my help and asked if I could come into the ER. I went in and she handed me a paper and said they are asking nurses to fill out a survey of being on the call team. On it were questions like "how long is your typical response time?" "what were you doing when you got called in?" and other questions. As I was completing it I realized that this was not something the hospital did. DH then came in to the ER and we went out for dinner. I knew the proposal was coming sometime since we had picked out my ring but I didn't know when. At dinner he said we'd go out for coffee the next morning. I kept expecting it at dinner then when it didn't happen I thought he'd do it at coffee the next morning. We went for a drive and drove by the house we had bought. We didn't have possession for a few months. He parked in the street and got out and we walked to the back yard around the pond. I was freaked out that we were going to get in trouble for trepassing but DH said it was ok. He proposed to me then around the pond. He had talked to the owners of the house and told him what he was going to be doing. We got married around the pond also.
Beautiful story Meg!
DH did not propose, I did.
Not that I would advise anyone to do what I did but here is the story. I asked DH out on a date, we had been friends at work for awhile. That date was supposed to be our first date (February 16th). DH showed up at work (on his day off) to take me out for dinner for Valentine's Day, so our first date was on Valentine's Day. On December 18th we were cuddling and DH asked if it was too soon to say the "L-word". I said no and we both said "I love you". Then I asked if it was too soon for the "M-word" and he said no. I said "marry me" and he said yes! We were married 14 months later and had our 10th anniversary in April. Yes, I was crazy for proposing after 4 days, it was not planned. I had to fly to Toronto a few days later to testify in a trial so when I came home I bought DH a candy ring.
Meg, your story is so sweet.
This was a good topic for me as one of my nieces is getting married tomorrow. Wish I could be there physically but I will be there in spirit.
Maragaret...Wow! Obviously it was the right thing for you to do. Congrats on 10 years! DH said the "L" word about a week after we started dating. I was shocked considering only 3 months prior his wife had passed away.
DH proposed to me on our 5 year anniversary. We had been going round and round about getting married for a year. I wanted too, he wasn't ready. We bought a house and had been living there for about 4 months. On our 5 year anniversary we went and stayed at a fancy hotel on the Magnificent Mile in Chicago. We were getting ready to go to dinner and he asked me if I wanted my anniversary present now or later. I said now, of course. He handed me the most beautiful ring and asked me to marry him. He said that he was always ready, he just wanted to make sure we had a house first that we loved so we could come "home" after our wedding. Very sweet.
All your stories are so sweet!
DH and I grew up across the street from one another, but we are almost 5 years apart, so we never dated or anything growing up but our families knew each other pretty well. So, we started dating when I was in college and 6 months later, his sister called me when I was at my parents and asked me to walk over to their parents house to see her wedding gown (she was getting married 4 months later and her dress was just delivered). I got there and went in to see the dress. Then, everyone kind of left the room and I walked out and no one was there. I hadn't seen DH yet at all, so I walked around to find him and when I walked in another room there were candles and flowers everywhere. He was there with the ring and proposed. I was so simple, but I was so surprised, which was what I really wanted. I had just got back from a mission trip in Turkey and we talked about marriage before but I didn't expect it to to happen so soon. All our family and friends knew what was happening and they were all at my parents house so we got to walk over and be with everyone right after.
All of your stories are so sweet! I'm a sucker for all of those wedding shows. I thought I would get over it now that I'm married, but no such luck...
