When to stop holding your breath? (bfp ment)

I have been getting positive hpt for the past few days, getting darker and darker lines. I have other pg symptoms, too, so I thought I'd get my BETA done early (even though the nurse told me to wait). My BETA was 98. I am currently 10dp3dt and tomorrow it will be two weeks since the ER. The nurse said 98 meant I was pg at this point. Really? I don't have excitement. I only feel worried. I guess I don't know if I really am pg? All the IVF meds make me feel odd and crap.

Sorry this is only one of a few posts from me on this forum. I don't want anyone to get the impression that I feel my bfp on my first IVF was expected. I KNOW I AM LUCKY. VERY LUCKY. I only had two embryos and I have been a nervous wreck.

Anyway, if anyone can give any feed back on their previous IVF cycles that had early BETA results, I would appreciate it.

Good luck to everyone.

Congrats on getting a BFP Yahoo

I never had an early beta done. My RE always did them past the 2 week mark. I'm sure everything feels so surreal at the moment because you never expected to be this far and get a BFP. With everything in the past being a disappointment, it's hard to get excited about something that you should. And of course, it's normal to worry also. You question how this worked when nothing else has I'm sure.

And as far as stopping holding your breath? I hate to tell you but you probably never will. Now you have a whole new set of worries with being pregnant. You'll worry if you're having enough symptoms and if your numbers are rising as they should and worry at every u/s. Then after your baby is born, you'll have more worries. Now that you are going to be a mommy you are going to worry about that child for the rest of your life.

Do you go back for another beta?

I am so happy for you right now!!! I didn't have an early beta; my beta was at the 14 dpo mark (it was 82 then). (PG MENT) I had cramping and spotting throughout the first trimester (normal, but very worrisome). It all felt very surreal. I relaxed more as my pg progressed and we hit different marks (first u/s, second u/s, second tri, etc). It didn't really sink in that I was a mommy until my DS was about 1 year old though. Seriously. I would look at him and have these surreal moments where I couldn't quite believe I was so lucky. I still have those moments (he'll be 2 in July), but reality finally kicked in.

Congrats!!! Yes, the worry never stops, just becomes different worries! I was nervous throughout my pregnancies, but with each passing week/month it will get a little better. Best wishes for a HH9M! Try to enjoy a little.... you are pregnant!

:woohoo: Congratulations! For me the worry lessens a bit after seeing a heart beat and then lessens a little more once I get into the 2nd trimester. I try to have an attitude of thankfulness for every day and enjoy the pregnancy overall (well, except for the really sick or painful parts). The worry never really goes away completely, even after they're born. I still look at my 4 year old IVF miracle in wonder and even tear up sometimes in appreciation of her at the most random of moments. Smile

Oh, and that's a great first beta number. It's higher than mine was!

My second BETA came in after 48 hours, 248. All seems to be okay, but my OHSS is returning. I am starting to think it's an ectopic pg b/c my ovaries hurt. I just worry, worry, worry, worry. My abdomen is huge, like it was after my ER. I look 4 months pg or something. It's sick. What are the signs of an ectopic pg? Could I be having one? Do you ovaries ache with an ectopic? When I have been pg in the past, the only ovary that ached was the one with the cyst... so I worry, of course.

Thanks,

That's a great 2nd beta :yahoo:. I'm sure all the symptoms you are experiencing are from the OHSS. The symtpoms of OHSS can be worse if you get pregnant because of the rising hcg.

I had ovarian type pain w my ds. I worried. Tell your doc about your worry. I bet he/she can tell from your numbers it is unlikely but they might do an ultrasound to alleviate your fears. I also worried throughout the pregnancy and when he was a newborn and now that he is three I worry he will be in an accident or get sick or something. It's called being a mom. You may never quite get used to it.

Congrats! Stress isn't good so try some positive self talk and see if that helps! Imagine that embryo embedding deep in your uterus away from the tubes! Those betas are awesome as well!

Everyone is so positive. Thanks. I had another beta today. 494. My doubling time is increasing, so I'm worried - OF COURSE. I am getting an exam tomorrow to look at my swollen abdomen and OHSS symptoms. The nurse told me to not worry about the increase in beta doubling time but I thought it should keep the same pace. 98 to 248 is a greater increase than 248 to 494.

Do you ever think the nurses get annoyed with you b/c they have never experienced IF or this kind of stress? I get this impression. Has anyone had a beta act this way and still be okay? With my last pg (tri18 loss), the momentum kept going until week 8 ish.

Glad your numbers are still rising. Isn't a 48 hr doubling time good? My RE had a much longer doubling time that he thought was good. Glad they are going to examine you to check out the OHSS.

I'm sure nurses do get annoyed with pts like us. I can say it because I'm a nurse. I'm sure they do get used to it though because they are always having to deal with it I'm sure.

This may sound bad, but I don't care if the nurses are annoyed (or at least I try really hard not to care). It is normal to have questions. This is what they are there for and their true job is to educate and help you (the good ones see this as their calling). I think Meg would agree. Also, there are times when I am annoyed about parts of my job - that is why they have to pay me to do it.

And you do not sound like a neurotic patient. You sound normal. I try to catch myself when I apologize for asking questions. I need to do that for my health.

I agree, so true!

I remember thinking my RE must've hated us. I really think he did because he was not nice at all. We asked so many questions, because we are both in the medical field, that I think others did not ask and he didn't like that we had that knowledge.

Your doubling time is still good so the fact that it changed doesn't matter. I know it's hard to not overanalyze it though! Are they having you come in for a 6 week ultrasound to check things out?

My ovaries always hurt during the first weeks of pregnancy. It's normal. My ovaries didn't feel any different for the ectopic I had. Also, the numbers didn't rise normally AT ALL for the ectopic, like a doubling time of a week or more. I really doubt you have an ectopic going on.

I'll be thinking of you and hoping things continue to go well for you. Biggrin

Congrats on your pregnancy! I have had both an ectopic and OHSS. I was extremely sore, swollen, and had to sleep sitting up for weeks because I couldnt breathe when I had OHSS. With my ectopic I just experienced excruciating pain on one side and lots of bleeding and it all occurred very quickly- it was not a continual soreness like OHSS. As for the worrying.....it never goes away....Oh..by the way, my first 2 betas with this pregnancy were similar to yours and I got 2 Smile

Thanks again for the feedback. I had an appointment with the doc to look at the OHSS. I have a mild case... but boy was it NOT mild a week ago. Doc said I have about 2 weeks left before it will be gone. For now, I have to monitor fluid in and out as well as my waistline. I have to call the nurses with an update daily to make sure my abdomen doesn't get larger. I was shocked that I only gained 3 pounds at the moment.

I am still worried about the ectopic pg. I know all pg's are different but my tri18 did have ovary pain like this. Thanks for letting me know other pg's have the same pains. My ovaries also hurt b/c they are HUGE right now.

Thanks again.

I'm glad that you were able to go to the doctor and get checked for OHSS.

m/c mentioned....
I'm sure you will keep worrying about an ectopic until you get your first u/s. With my m/c we had genetic testing done and it came back positive for Turner's Syndrome. My RE said that the chances of another pregnancy ending with Turner's Syndrome was slim to none. Did your doc tell you the likelihood of a tri18 occurring again.?

I was told that my tri 18 was not mosaic or based on genetics - purely random in nature. I was told that odds of another tri would be the same as the first, 1:323. Sorry about your m/c turners angel.

My beta was 960 today. Scheduled viability u/s for 5/11. It is on Friday so I have the weekend to recover if things look sad. My tri loss due date was 5/5 and my bday is the 9th... I would rather get bad news after those days have passed.

Thanks again for your support.

I had to got back to get my abdomen checked out (yesterday). I gained 4 lbs in 2 days! My belly is huge. It seems like all more organs are above my belly button and the ovaries and fluid have taken over the entire lower abdomen. It's insane. OHSS sucks but I know it's a sign that I am producing pg hormones.

While getting my abdomen looked at, the doc could see the sac forming. I was just 5w yesterday so I didn't expect to see anything, so it was nice to hear.

My last beta was 1915 - a 48 hour doubling. Things seem okay for now and I am trying my best to be relaxed. I know my beta is a bit low for most 5 weekers, but I just happy to see it doubling!

I still find myself planning a miscarriage... what lessons will I leave for the sub? ...how many sick days do I have left? ...will it pass before the viability u/s? I wish I could just not think about these things, but I do.

Sorry the OHSS is still taking a toll on you. Hopefully the symptoms will resolve soon. I think it gets worse before it gets better and it sounds like you are at the "worse" part.

I think our minds prepare us for the worst since we have had so many let downs in the past. I hope you don't have to worry about any of that stuff and continue on to have a HH9M.

My OHSS is lessening and I am concerned that I am having a m/c. I am only 5w3d so I should still have symptoms of OHSS. I am so worried that my hcg is dropping! I want to get my hcg done again tomorrow morning but that means I would have to teach all day after finding out I am going to have a m/c.

I know all you can say is "stay calm". I want to know if anyone has had OHSS and had it start to diminish this early?

What did your RE say about when your OHSS symptoms should resolve? I would think it would be normal for them to getting better at this point, not worse. I'm sorry you are having these worries. Call your RE and see what he thinks.

What do you teach?

I messaged (email) the IVF nurse. She's been great. If she doesn't message me back by this afternoon, I will call. I am hoping she'll tell me that it's time for the OHSS to subside. Gosh, I hate being such a crazy pg lady! I just can't stand the thought of another m/c. I have read that most women have symptoms of OHSS until the end of the first trimester. I am only 5w4d.

I teach middle school History and English. It's fun, most days...

I heard back from her today. I forgot that she is off on Monday and Tuesdays.... She recommended getting my u/s done earlier to ease my concerns. I scheduled the u/s on Friday 5/11 so I can have the weekend to deal with bad news. I did, however, get my beta done again - 7915, so it is still doubling about every 48 hours. From what I know, betas usually increase in doubling time after 2000 but I am not letting this concern me. My tri18 baby had really really high betas and I found out this is typical of trisomy babies. As long as the betas are high enough but not too high, I'm okay.

I had my viability u/s moved up to Monday and I'll be 6w4d. I didn't get the heartbeat checked with my last pg until 7w4d. I am nervous I'm doing this too soon but I am too anxious to wait any longer. I kept my appt for the 11th if there isn't a heartbeat... back up plan. I'll be 7w on the 11th.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I'm nervous.
