Having a baby is tiring stuff. You're worn to the core by the time it's over, tired beyond what anybody could rightly describe as tired. But when you hold your new baby the pain, the feelings of exhaustion, all fade away. All of that becomes like a tough dream that has a good ending.

Well, a website isn't a kid. Not even close. But constructing it is like an act of love: you work together and hope the whole ends up better than the sum of its individual parts. We're not trying to create another website. We're trying to create a great one. And we're hoping to do it together with all of you.

Our mission statement:

We're built by parents for parents. We've banded together to build a website to educate, empower, and connect ourselves, other parents, and people trying to become parents. We're doing this out of our love for children, and our desire to do our best raising them to become good adults. We believe parenting is a sacred responsibility, and that education and communication will help us fulfill this responsibility the best we can.

Our principles:

We're for profit but we don't exist only to make money. Because of this, we pledge the highest ethics. We won't advertise lucrative products, like baby formula. We will not accept any sponsorship that directly or indirectly interferes with our mission or compromises our ethics.

We're built organically, by parents and for parents. We've all held babies or long to someday. We've had babies pee in our faces, and been happy (hooray! my kid's parts work). We've been embarrassed at restaurants, and interrupted at work. We know you can't intervene in every fit, nor ignore those thrown when you'd rather be doing something else. We are you.

We're open. Everything from the computer operating system (Linux) running our servers to the content sitting for you to peruse is open. There will be no mysterious policies, hierarchies, or decisions. If it affects our website it will be talked about in the open, with the user community.

We're flat. We're all equal community members. We're a group of people working together to create a common goal: the greatest resource and community for people who want to have kids, are pregnant, are raising children or even beginning to take care of our own parents. Nobody's above, or below, anybody else.

We're in it for love, not money.
