Jessica Simpson and fiance Eric Johnson welcomed their son Ace Knute into the world last June. Little Ace is the couple's second child - Simpson also gave birth to a daughter, Maxwell Drew, last year.
Since this wasn't her first time at the rodeo, Simpson said she had a much smarter weight-management plan for her second pregnancy. Like many women, Simpson reported indulging herself in her first pregnancy, eating whatever she pleased and never denying herself anything. However, the second time around, Simpson took a different approach. For example, instead of eating an entire chocolate cake on a whim, Simpson said she would allow herself the cake, but only one piece.
Simpson, who became an avid supporter and spokesperson of the Weight Watchers program after her first pregnancy, said she plans on using the program again to lose her baby weight. However, she feels that this time, she's set herself up for a much easier success, as the tools she learned during the program the first time around helped her make smarter choices during her second pregnancy, resulting in less weight gain. Even so, Simpson said she had her work cut out for her, just like any recent mother.
"I didn't gain as much weight in my second pregnancy, but I still gained a lot of weight," Simpson told ABC News. "Any woman, dealing with their body after pregnancy, you look at yourself and you're like, 'What just happened to me?'"
Weight loss is more than just dieting
Simpson also said that exercise is an important part of her weight-loss plan. She uses a pedometer to track her walking distances, making it a point to walk at least 12,000 steps each day. Simpson also has the benefit of working with a personal trainer four times a week. So far, she's pleased with her progress.
"I'm taking it week by week so I don't get frustrated with myself," she told the source. "If I had a long-term goal, and that's all I thought about it, I think it would set me back more … So far, so good."
