Getting Pregnant While Overweight

QUESTION

Dear Nutritionist,
I recently started an exercise program, because I am a little overweight. I am 5'7" and I weigh 179, but I am still pretty muscular from being very active most of my life.

My husband and I want a baby very badly, but my stomach is getting in the way. When I sit down, I have a couple of big rolls. I just want to know if I should work harder to get my stomach into better shape before we conceive, or just don't worry about it and lose the weight afterwards. I plan on exercising and eating healthy throughout my pregnancy.

Good Fats for a 14-month-old

QUESTION

Dear Nutritionist,
Hi. My 14-month-old son, who has a dairy allergy, is a very picky eater. I know fats are good for babies so I've been trying to get him to eat veggies cooked in olive oil, peanut butter, etc. But he hates veggies, squishes his PBJs and loathes avocado. He thrives on crackers and other dry foods (has some texture issues as well). How can I get fats into him?

Thanks!
Christa

Anorexia and Pregnancy

QUESTION

Dear Nutritionist,
I have suffered from anorexia in the past and currently am now overweight. I weigh 160 pounds and I am 5 feet with a medium to large build. The idea of being pregnant has stirred my anorexia awake.

To keep from starving my baby I need to know how many calories I should be consuming in a day while pregnant so I can keep track closely to make sure I eat enough.

Thanks.
Gayle-Anne
