QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
Hi, my baby is due on November 6th, however I had a show last week and have been having a few braxton-hicks contractions in the evenings. I saw my doctor yesterday and he told me that the baby's head is well engaged but is still in a posterior position. He also preformed an internal examination and found that my cervix is not ripe.

Will This Help Labor Get Started?

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I am currently 38 weeks and five days pregnant and I had my weekly OB appointment today with my midwife. She checked me and I am about 75% effaced, but have not yet begun to dilate. She said that next week at my next appointment they will again check me and they will start to rupture my membranes for me to get things going. What can I expect at this visit and does that mean that I will have my baby next weekend? My due date is next Sunday, November 7th.

Thanks.

An Emergency C-section

Since Caitlin's birth happened so fast, and so unexpectedly, there isn't really too much to tell, but I'll do my best to make it interesting. Her birth story actually began at our baby shower as I opened our last gift. I was crouched down to unwrap the present (It was one of those stroller/car seat combos -- we knew that ahead of time.
