First Trimester

So I'm at about 12 weeks, and at the 10th week, my morning sickness really kicked up a notch. It's been getting worse ever since, and for the past week, I haven't been able to keep down my prenatal vitamins. I'm really working hard to eat the right things...snacking often...high protein...etc.

Are prenatal vitamins all the same? Are some gentler on the stomach?

What can I do to make sure the baby is receiving adequate nutrition?

Dreams of Smoking

Jane Foley's picture

Dear Ms. Ultrasound,
I am seven weeks pregnant. I saw that you are a dream expert. Can you help me with a re-occurring dream I am troubled by? It happens now, and before my pregnancy, for years it has been a dream once or twice a week.

It's of me, chain smoking. I am not a smoker, never have been, and now that I'm pregnant I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke.

So why do I dream of chain smoking? In my dreams I get an almost sexual pleasure from chain smoking.

Any dream interpretations would be cool and helpful!

Hello Mummy!!!

At 2045 this evening my mummy found out I am here!!!
Mummy was 2 days late for her period and has had some slight spot bleeding so decided to take a test.
Mummy and daddy have been trying for me for the past 10 months since they had my brother.
Mummy is going to keep me a secret for the next couple of weeks so only me and her will know I'm here.
My mummy is very happy about me being here and already can't wait to meet me, oh well mummy, 36 weeks to go!!!

My journey through pregnancy and chronic illness

I have learned that I am pregnant. The concern is that I have a chronic brain illness that I am under the care of specialist's and pain and seizure management. For the last week and a half I spent the whole time shuttling back and forth to specialist's. The same one's that said I could not conceive, well, I think that was wrong! LOL! They all gave me the go ahead and informed me of the risks of medications and pregnancy and they have altered them to ensure proper neural tube formation. I am an extremely pro-active in my health and this is a surprise!

Pregnancy After Menopause

Dear Midwife,
I am 38 years old and have been in menopause for 12 years or so. I have not had a period since Septemeber 2001. Late march of this year I started having pregnancy symptoms and called my doctor. I had two blood test done and an ultrasound. The blood test were negative, both were under 5 and ultrasound showed a cyst on my ovary.

MRSA and Pregnancy

Dear Midwife,
I had my first baby through emergency c-section last year. My wound still has not healed so I am having surgery in which they will open it and clean it from the inside.

I was told last week that I am MRSA positive and today I found out that I am pregnant.

Will this surgery and the MRSA be harmful to my unborn child?

A Journey Into Pregnancy #2

In December we decided to try again. I got my IUD taken out and my doctor wanted to let us try on our own a bit before starting the clomid again, just in case my body was able to straighten itself out. In March I started to get anxious and asked for the clomid. I had to wait for a period. When it came I started the clomid per the directions my doctor gave me. After 12 days of still bleeding I called my doctor and asked if it was normal and he told me to take a pregnancy test, and it was positive!

Ultrasound Shows Small Bleed

Dear Ms Ultrasound,
I went in today for my first ultrasound to confirm my due date. Everything with the baby looked great. My due date was right on and the baby's heart beat was 145bpm. I am 7 weeks and 3 days.

Last week when I first woke up and used the bathroom there was a tiny amount of blood and when I wiped, it was a pinkish/brown. I had no cramping or anything and when I called the doctor they said it was probably old. I have had no other bleeding since then.
