Today we went to the hospital to have a second ultra-sound and some blood work done. My fiancée made plans to go into work late, again, so that he could be present for the fascinating "picture show". There was lots of questions and paperwork, and Kris really wasn't thrilled with sitting through all of that, but as soon as they put the jelly on my belly he was in a trance. He stared at the monitor, waiting for the "show" to start. When the ultra-sound machine touched my belly, there was a quick arm movement from baby.
Today, we went for our "early ultrasound" as we did not have a precise due date. As we waited to see the technician that would give us our first glimpse of our developing bundle of joy, I could feel the pressure in my bladder building by the minute. Once in the ultrasound room, the technician explained what was about to happen. She explained that she would have to apply lots of pressure to get a good view of the fetus. I figured, "short term pain, for long term gain (i.e. have a defined due date). At first she had difficulty finding the baby, then she spotted the amniotic sac.
Dear Mr. Dad,
My wife and I are expecting our first child. The problem is that I'm in the US Marine Corps on tour in Iraq. I have been here since the beginning of the pregnancy and I might not be there for the birth of our child.
My wife is having a hard time doing this on her own and I feel that there's nothing I can do to support her. I'm reading your book, The Expectant Father, which I find very helpful. But do you know of any resources that are specifically aimed at military dads and/or their families?
After having already had three children and a houseful of dogs and cats I pretty much thought I was prepared for our fourth baby, Kelsyann. I'm an experienced Mom right?!? This should be easy.
Well boy was I wrong! From the beginning Kelsyann has been a needy baby. Nothing that worked with the others seemed to work for her. This has been interesting, frustrating and challenging at best!
