Unexpectedly Pregnant

  • First Baby!

    I have only been married for about three months, and we became pregnant unexpectadly. I have been very physically active (I teach a high intensity Zumba class) and I exercise six days a week (before I became pregnant). I have been keeping that up because I know it is healthy to exercise during pregnancy, and my body is used to it. I just wanted to know when I need to cool it... I do not want to harm my baby ever!

  • So I thought it was just a UTI

    I knew I had not felt well the last week, but I just thought it was a UTI. It was confirmed on Tuesday, April 28 that it was, in fact, a UTI that had made its way to my kidneys. I described my pain more specifically to the PA, who said she thought I probably had a kidney stone. She said to wait it out a day and see how I felt on Wednesday. With an RX for antibiotics and pain relievers, I went home and took my meds. For some reason, I just knew there had to be more.

    It's official! We caught the egg during last months ovulation! I was shocked to see the 2 very distinct lines on the pregnancy test Wedneaday morning. I had had some brown spotting that started Tuesday and carried over into Wednesday, so I assumed it was AF starting up again. But, I just seemed to have this gut feeling that I was in fact pregnant, which surprised me since I was not counting on getting preggo again so soon after the m/c. So, I ended up testing on Wednesday morning and both lines showed up right away!

    I am 7 weeks pregnant and I work at a place where we test jewelry with jewelry testing acid. I wear gloves and use a mask, but I am still worried this may be harmful to the baby.

    Can you please tell me if it is ok for me to work with this? Thanks

    Dear Midwife,
    I am an American living in Cabo San Lucas in Mexico and while I was here I thought that I may have gotten amoebas. I took something called Vermox which is a one time dose to kill any parasites. I also took maybe only 2 days worth of Pankreoflat.

    I just want to know if these can do any damage to the baby.

    I just took a pregnancy test that was positive. I had my daughter 9 months ago and have not had a regular period since. One month I will get and the next I won't. Therefore, I had no idea I was pregnant and have no idea how far along I am.

    My concern is that my husband and I went on vacation last week and did drink alcohol 4 out of the 7 nights we were there. Should I be worried about FAS? My last period was in January, so I could be as far as 8 weeks. What can I do to make sure the baby is okay?

    This is hard to say but I was prescribed pills before I knew I was pregnant and might have been abusing them because I thought my tolerance was up. I was prescribed Xanax and Somas.

    I just found out I was pregnant. I don't know how far along because I have not been tracking my period but I know the last period I had for sure had was the end of January.

    I'm freaking out before my first appointment, wondering if the baby is okay.

    Is there anyway to detect that? I worry about this non stop now after reading online.

  • HcG Tests - What Can They Tell

    Dear Midwife,
    My family doc ordered a "hcg quantitative" blood test to find out how many weeks along I am.

    A friend of mine swears that there is no such test to determine this and thinks that my doc is a quack and I should get another doc. I AM going to a OB as soon as possible, but my family doc wants to follow along.

    Is this test for real, and what are the chances that my "hcg qualitative & quantity" tests (done at two separate times) are "false positives"?

    My friend doesn't even think I'm pregnant...I am stressing enough without having to deal with this.

    Dear Ms. Ultrasound,
    I have a question. My period comes every month like clock work o.k I had my last period on September 1st on October 6th I took a pregnancy test came back positive based on the first day of my last period my due date was June 8th.

    At my first doctors appointment I was given a ultrasound and that put my due date at June 14th which is impossible cause that would put the first day of my last period at September 7th. My period was leaving so how is that and how off can the ultrasound be?

    Our story, is probably not too rare.
    My husband and I were married 2 1/2 years ago and decided that we wouldn't wait to start a family. My mother was extremely fertile so I never thought that I would have any problems conceiving. After 6 months I began to feel nervous. After persuading my Doc. to give us the battery of tests that they usually make you wait a year for we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility.

    Almost one year after our marriage we found that we were pregnant, and were over the moon. Unfortunately it was shortlived and at 6.5 weeks while on holiday I began to miscarry. I think I lost a large part of my heart that day. It took me a long time to get over it.

    Over the next year, we tried chineese acupuncture which helped regulate my cycles and I took a mind body class which helped me get my emotions undercontrol. I began to meditate regularly listening to Jennifer Bloom's fertilty meditations www.anjionline.com and slowly came to a place of peace about our fertility journey.

    I've had many thoughts over the past two years. I can't say how many times I've wished that the pregnancy test would just show positive. So many negatives, how hard would it be to have a positive! The month that I got pregnant after the first year, I knew I was pregnant before I checked the stick. My boobs were sore and I'd had funny aches in my tummy. I just new it, the test was just a confirmation.

    In November I took a pregnancy test, not expecting any thing extraordinary and there it was...pregnant! I was totally suprised.

    The next few days were long and painful, with every twinge I thought that I'd get a late period. I was terrified of loosing this one too. I booked an appointment with my Dr. but couldn't get in for a week. I couldn't imagine staying pregnant for an entire week! My fears were confirmed a few of days later when I felt that my boobs had got much less sore. I figured it was only time before I bled. I sat at work in my cubicle and couldn't stop crying. I had to excuse my self (via email so no one saw me) and went home.

    I didn't start to bleed, but I did start to feel nauseus and my boobs got sore again. My Doc. ran some tests and said that my HCG was just fine and doubling on schedule. I was still pregnant.

    I was really nervous about passing the 6.5 week mark that had been my miscarriage last time. Unfortunately it came over christmas surrounded by family. I was feeling really sick and would pretty much rather have been any where else as long as I could have been alone.

    My husband and I have just found out that I am 12-14 weeks pregnant with our first child. This has been completely unplanned as I for the last 2 years have been taking Methotrexate for Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, my dose is 20mg per week taken via an injection format.

    When I was originally prescribed the drug we were told that under no circumstances should I think about having children without having come off it for at least 6 months. This was not an issue to us so we had planned our lives around just being the two of us.
