1 Baby's blood cells take over for liver in producing blood. The gall bladder becomes functional, producing bile which is needed for digestion. | ||||||
2 Lunar Month 6, 20 wks LMP (18 wks gestation) | 3 Consider a Doula to help during childbirth. Come meet ours! | 4 Baby's milk teeth begin to form under gums. | 5 If you're still suffering from morning sickness here is a book that can help. Nausea and Vomiting in Pregnancy by Denise Tiran. | 6 Baby's body hair, including eyebrows and lashes begin to grow. Small hairs called lanugo covers baby's body and face. Most of it falls out before birth. | 7 Right now your baby's skin is translucent. If you could see your baby, you would also be able to see his/her bones and organs, too! | 8 As your belly grows, it puts pressure on your bladder, making you urinate more frequently. Your digestive system is also suffering. This may cause heartburn and indigestion. Try eating smaller meals at more frequent intervals. |
9 21 wks LMP (19 wks gestation) | 10 Suggested Reading: The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy, by Vicki Iovine. | 11 Baby's getting strong: Mom you might feel some movement. This is called the quickening. | 12 Avoid hot-tubs, tanning booths, and super hot showers. You want to keep your body heat low and not "boil" the baby. | 13 Walking, biking, and swimming (all in moderation unless you have permission to go harder) help keep mom fit and make the delivery easier. | 14 This is a good time to register for childbirth/pain management classes. | 15 Ultrasounds happen around this time. You don't have to have one, unless a problem is suspected or you're curious. |
16 22 wks LMP (20 wks gestation) | 17 A heartbeat can be heard without specialized listening equipment. | 18 Childproofing your home is a good idea (even though you have another 6 months after the birth to do it). | 19 Real hair and toenails are beginning to grow. Baby continues to urinate and drink amniotic fluid, which is exchanged every three hours. | 20 At this point, baby girls have developed all the eggs they'll ever have in their ovaries. | 21 You'll probably find that everyone, want to give you every detail of their birth stories. Take it in stride. Try to focus on those that have positive stories with wonderful outcomes. | 22 The brain is rapidly developing. Fatty sheaths that transmit thought are forming. Eating protein is very important to help develop this. |
23 23 wks LMP (21 wks gestation) | 24 Meconium, the baby's first stool is developing. You'll see a lot of this come out after baby is born. | 25 Baby can hear the mother's heart and stomach. These types of sounds are comforting to a newborn, too. | 26 A special type of fat called brown fat develops. This keeps baby warm at birth. It also provides nourishment while your milk is coming in. | 27 Baby might begin to suck its thumb around now. | 28 Suggested Reading: Soul Trek: Meeting Our Children on the Way to Birth, by Elisabeth Hallet. | 29 Vernix, which protects baby's skin from amniotic fluid, covers the entire skin. |
30 Lunar Month 7, 24 wks LMP (22 wks gestation) | 31 Your baby is almost fully formed about now -- and finally looks like a miniature human instead of other-worldly. |
