A fun night begins the new journey to parenthood!
2 weeks from LMP
Cells are dividing...
Egg falls into the uterus and gets ready to implant itself.
Egg implants and sheds its outer wall. Read more on implantation and why the egg sticks to the uterus.
You've grown a blastocyst
Stop smoking, or at least cut down if you can't -- but you should quit all together. This is easier if dad quits smoking, too.
Preggo Factoid: The saline content of amniotic fluid is the same as the oceans.
3 weeks from LMP (1 wk gestation)
Blood pregnancy test may show positive at this point.
Early pregnancy symptoms include sore breasts, cramping, mild nausea, fatigue, increased irritability, or sometimes you might not feel anything at all.
Morning sickness could set in. Your brain might not know you're pregnant but your body sure does.
Blastocyst is growing...The blastocyst will firmly attach to the endometrium in the next couple of days.
Pregnancy tests range in quality and price -- be careful which you choose! We recommend Clear Blue Easy.
Personal Reflection: "I spent the first 11 wks of my pregnancy bent over the toilet. Two days after I stopped, I had forgotten how awful it was."
Lunar Month 2, 4 weeks from LMP (2 wks gestation)
Home pregnancy tests might show positive now. Remember there can be false negatives, but rarely a false positive.
Now that you're pregnant, drink 6-8 cups of water each day and take your Folic acid! See a midwife or ob/gyn soon. Prenatal care is essential!
Two "prongs" of the blastocyst separate: one becomes the head, the other a baby butt.
Nerve development in your baby begins. Ouch!
Your hormones are going crazy. Looking for a change to make yourself feel good?
Blastocyst becomes an embryo. Congratulations!
The embryo is beginning to develop a face, though it still looks 'other worldly.' The baby's head, body and sac are the same size.
5 wks LMP (3 wks gestation)
The embryo becomes three layers. The outer layer becomes the brain, nerves, and skin. The placenta becomes fully functional.
The middle layer becomes the bones, muscles, blood vessels, heart, and sex organs.
The inner layer becomes the stomach, liver, intestines, lungs, and urinary tract.
Do you have a cat? Make someone else change the cat litter. It can cause toxoplasmosis which can harm the developing baby.
Aspirin and prescribed medication can also be harmful. Ask your provider before taking anything -- even vitamins. Read our article on things you CAN and CANNOT do during pregnancy.
Hello in there! The inner ear is forming. Cynics say it doesn't matter but singing to baby can be fun and enjoyable.
6 wks LMP (4 wks gestation) Babies heart starts to beat, though it's almost impossible to hear.
Personal Reflection: "There's nothing like hearing your baby's heartbeat for the first time."
