11 Weeks Pregnant and Have Developed an Infestation of RINGWORMS

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I am 11 weeks pregnant and has developed this really bad case of ringworms on my inner thighs, both of them. I started using Lotrimin Ultra on them which seems to be working some what, but after reading a few post of google.com it seems that Lotrimin Ultra may be harmful to use or presents some harmful side-effects during pregnancy.

Do you have any suggestions on what I can use or can I continue to use the Lotrimin Ultra? I cannot leave them the way they are because they itch and spread too quickly if they go untreated. My doctor suggested last time to watch them and see what happen for a week. I have had ringworms before, so I know the longer you let them go, the harder they are to contain and treat; therefore, his suggestion wasn't one that I would like to follow. I actually didn't follow it. (I guess you can call me a disobedient patient).

Thank you for your advice

ANSWER

What you are doing is just fine and exactly what I would recommend.

All anti-fungals are Pregnancy Category C just because no one has done the tests on pregnant women, as far as I can see.

Trust me, when someone has a yeast infection during pregnancy, we do treat it!
