42 and Period Is Late

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I am 42, I haven't had my period since Jan 22, 2009. I have taken 5 home test (4 negative 1 positive) and went to my DR. and had blood test done, turn out negative too.

I had half a day of light bleeding, no cramps. My periods are always normal, cramps and all. I feel nausea, heart palpitations, fatigue, and very light fluids (sweet milky) come out of my breast. I just don't know what to do. My period still isn't here and I feel pregnant. However could it be because I am scared I am??

I don't know, please someone help me.

ANSWER

If you are not pregnant, there are other conditions (including peri-menopause) that could be causing your symptoms. It is important that you find out what is happening, so I would suggest a check-up.
