5 Weeks Pregnant With Mild Cramping

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I am five weeks pregnant and all day I've been having cramping. I'm not bleeding at all, just have cramping in my lower ab. region.

Before I became pregnant, I was told that I have small ovarian cysts on both ovaries.

Could this be causing the cramps, or is there something else that could be going on? I'm just wondering if this could be a normal thing. (It is my first pregnancy.)

ANSWER

It could be the cysts and it could be normal "growing pains" and it could be implantation. If there is no bleeding, cramps at this time are usually not worrisome.
