Dear Midwife,
I am 13 weeks pregnant with my 3rd child and for some reason I keep getting yeast infections. Is this normal? I have my first appointment coming up in a few days, but I'm getting a little worried. If possible can you give me some advice. Thank you
You may want to change your diet. Yeasty beasties LOVE sugar in all its forms -- the obvious sweets, but also fruit, dairy and carbohydrates, like pasta, rice, potatoes, and cereal. I'm assuming that you have been treated (unsuccessfully).
For about a week, try concentrating on proteins and vegetables, with as few sugars as you can manage. Treat the infection while on this diet, and you may be able to kick it. Other good suggestions are to take acidophilus and/or eat yogurt with live cultures (check the package) that week. Good luck!
