Blood Tinged Mucous During Early Pregnancy

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I found out today that I am 6 weeks pregnant. When I had a bowel movement I had some small red blood mixed in with a mucous discharge. The blood is only in this mucous not by itself. And it was only a little bit.

What is going on am I having a miscarriage?

ANSWER

Not unless you see a lot of bright red blood. A little red blood mixed with mucus at this stage of pregnancy is often implantation bleeding. Good luck!
