Do Certain Foods Cause Contractions?

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
Is it normal for me to get really strong contractions and stomach pains after I eat a certain food group? For me, breads, cereals, chips, cookies, any kind of carbs. seem to trigger off contractions that really hurt. Is this okay? Keep in mind that I am 38 weeks pregnant.

ANSWER

At this gestation, any way you can get contractions is a bonus! -- assuming you do not have diabetes, of course. I hope your baby comes soon.
