Drinking Home Made Juice During Pregnancy

QUESTION

Is it okay to drink home made juice while pregnant? I like to make juice almost every day, but I've read some blogs which state that it is not recommended during pregnancy. I usually juice carrots, beets, spinach, asparagus, brocolli and dandelion leaves.

ANSWER

Juicing vegetables is okay. But, it's best to eat your vegetables and fruit, so that you get that beneficial fiber. Try blending rather than juicing to keep the fiber in your drink.

If you really like your juicing, stick with veggie juicing rather than fruit juicing. If you want to have some fruit juice, keep it to a half cup maximum per day to prevent a quick sugar rush. Keeping your glucose levels stabilized is key while pregnant to prevent gestational diabetes.
