Food Poisoning While Pregnant

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I am 26 weeks pregnant and I got food poisoning. I ended up getting IV fluids for dehydration. Is there any risks to the baby with the food poisoning? It only lasted about 24 hours or so.

ANSWER

Very unlikely, because your body probably did what it is supposed to do, which is to get the bad food out as quickly as possible by whatever route it would come out.
