Freaking Out After First U/S

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I got a positive pregnancy test on January 7th. It was a digital test and came up a definite pregnant. I haven't had a period since May 2008 (was on Yaz) so they did an u/s today to date my pregnancy. According to the u/s I am only 5w0d. That would mean I got a positive test just one week after conception. Is that even possible? With my two previous pregnancies it has taken me many days after my period to get my positives.

I go back for an u/s next Friday, but I am not very hopeful. There was a yolk sac today and the nurses blew me off like it was no big deal that I had gotten a test two weeks ago. I think something is very wrong. Thank you.

ANSWER

It sounds to me like something is very right! Obviously, this little one really wants to be here, and is making the hCG to prove it! But of course, it's possible I could be wrong, and the next ultrasound will tell you for sure.
