Dear Doula,
My best friend and I have wanted to get a tattoo together for years. We finally decided on what we wanted, waited to make sure, then made an appointment (which is tonight actually).
She and her husband have been trying to get pregnant for the last year and this week she was supposed to get her period. She took a home pregnancy test this morning and it was positive. She's tracked the time from the possible date of conception to be about 2 weeks.
She really wants to go forward with getting the tattoo, but I'm having reservations due to the fact she could be pregnant. What is your advice on this?
Thanks for your time.
I am not a doctor, nurse or midwife but I have had children. The first trimester is such a critical time in development that I would suggest waiting until after the baby is born for the tattoo.
You never know about the tools and instruments used and the cleanliness. Plus what are the side effects of the materials or paints that they use for the tattoo.
I strongly suggest waiting. She should make an appointment with a doctor or midwife as soon as possible and then she can get their medical opinion.
