Glucose Levels

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
My OB/GYN ordered a GCT at 24 weeks, my results came at 160 mg instead of 140 when given 50 gms of glucose 2 1/2 hrs after a meal.

She next ordered a set of non-challenge tests - Fasting Blood sugar and Post prandial BS. Fasting result was 68 and PPBS after 2 hours was 79.

She said I was perfectly normal and some women show an intolerance to the glucose challenge test. Am I at any risk for gestational diabetes since am 32 years old and first time pregnant.

ANSWER

Possibly, so you may want to request a second test at about 30 weeks just to be sure. OR, an even better idea in my opinion, is to search the net for a pregnancy diabetic diet and just go on it. That way, you will increase your chances of a good outcome. Good luck!
