Is it Amniotic Fluid??

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
Hi I am 22 weeks pregnant with my 4th child and will be having a cesarean section. I had 2 previous IUGR's where both babies were in intensive care with lung and breathing problems. This was noticed at 35 weeks that the babies had not grown properly and my fluid levels were decreasing.

Now for the past few weeks I have had 4 instances where a dribble has just run down my leg but also I have had to change my underwear twice a day and would be soaking through to my jeans. I have never had any bladder problems.

The fluid is clear and watery. It has no smell. Could it be amniotic fluid and would this be the cause for IUGR again or am I worrying too much???

ANSWER

My opinion is that any leaking that runs down your leg should be reported right away to your provider. The wet underwear or pad should be brought in for testing in order to make sure it is not amniotic fluid.
