Length of Cycle Changed After D&C

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I had a D&C in November after I miscarried due to a blighted ovum at 8 weeks. My cycles prior had always been a 28 day cycle give or take a day without fail. Since my surgery I have had cycles of 34 days.

Is it normal for my body to have adjusted in this manner? I am TTC again, so I just want to make sure this is ok because it is terribly frustrating.

ANSWER

I do try other methods first for completing the miscarriage than a D&C for women who want to conceive, as it is true that there can be significant changes afterwards.

Remember that women normally ovulate 14 days prior to their periods, so that would be cycle day 20 for you. Have intercourse 2-3 times the week before ovulation, and then good luck! Hopefully it will work this time!
