Maternity Notes

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I have this written in my maternity notes, can you tell me what it means?

cx mid anterior,2cm long and thick.multips os pp@3cm

This is my 3rd pregnancy 39 weeks today

ANSWER

It says your cervix is where we want it (mid-position to anterior), the cervix isn't "ripe" yet because it is long and thick, but that you have had babies before (multiparous os). I am not sure what pp means, but it's possible that at least the external portion of your cervix is dilated to 3cm; however, it is the internal portion that "counts." You would have to ask your provider what pp means for me to understand that last bit. Here are my congratulations in advance, and best wishes for an easy, healthy delivery!
