Dear Midwife,
I was just wondering if you have to have a period every month to conceive and or ovulate?
I was diagnosed with PCOS years ago and so my periods are very irregular. I don't even know for sure if I am even ovulating. How can I find out if I am ovulating when I do have my period?
Thank you,
Misty
Most women ovulate about 14 days before their period, no matter when the period comes. The only ways I know of to tell if you are ovulating are taking your basal body temperature/checking cervical mucus and using an ovulation predictor kit. But if you have PCOS and want to conceive, you might do better to consult someone who knows how to manage such situations, as there are medications that might help you.
