Pregnancy Timeline Confusion
QUESTION
Dear Ms. Ultrasound,
I have very irregular periods. My last period was 10/20/2008. The last time my fiancé and I had sex before he left for military leave was 11/15/08.
I just went to the doctors this morning and the ultrasound showed a pregnancy of about 5-6 weeks. The doctor said that this meant I would have gotten pregnant the first or second week in December. But my pregnancy test on 12/15 showed I was pregnant then, which I believe would have been to early to get a positive read for an early December pregnancy. Not to mention the fact that I did not have intercourse after 11/15/08.
Is it possible for me to only be 5-6 weeks along? Should I be worried about a miscarriage? I am going back in 2 weeks for another internal. Should I be prepared for the worse?
ANSWER
Hello
I have to tell you that it does not fair well for this pregnancy. If the latest conception date possibility was in November, you should be at least 8 weeks along by now. It looks like the pregnancy stopped growing around 5-6 weeks. Your doctor will probably look again at the gestational sac when you return in two weeks. This will give you confirmation on the viability of the pregnancy.
I am so sorry I could not have given you better news. If you have any more questions just let me know.
With Regards,
