QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I have this on going problem that no doctor can help me with...

I frequently get painful uti's( every3-5 weeks)... The doctors keep giving me medicine for it(macrobid) but it keeps coming back. I've had this problem since before I was pregnant and I am now 15 weeks.

I just want the pain and everything to just go away....

ANSWER

When you are not pregnant, you may be able to be put on a low dose of bactrim all the time, or just after each act of intercourse if the "bug" you have is susceptible to it. This works for many women.

Bactrim cannot be taken close to delivery, but there is a possibility that it could be prescribed for a little while to give you some relief. Otherwise, you might see if the same sort of thing could be done with macrobid.
