Dear Ms Ultrasound,
My LMP (last menstrual period) was 2/13/. I've had a positive urine pregnancy test since 3/15/. I went to the doctor today -- an ultrasound was done for dates. There was extreme concern because the gestational sac was irregularly shaped - oval with a slight horn-shape on one end with a yolk sac visible. It was also noted that there was insertion at the bottom of the uterus. It seems as though these were bleak results.I would appreciate your opinion.
From the LMP of 2/13/2005, you should be almost 8 weeks. If the sac only showed a yolk sac, this would indicate more like a 5 week sac. If the sac is irregular in size and is low in the uterus, I'm sorry to say, it doesn't look good. I'm sure your doctor will repeat the ultrasound in a week if you haven't started to bleed to see if there has been any growth or change in the sac.
I wish I could have given you better news. Even though I let you know the most likely possibility, if there is a gestational sac in the uterus, with a yolk sac, there is always hope.
