Second Trimester Muscle Pain

QUESTION

Hi there,

I am 14-weeks pregnant and have been experiencing cramps, almost like muscle pain, in my lower tummy. It comes and goes. It started on the right and now it is in the left.

I have also been having an aching feeling on my vagina. It isn't internal, it feels more like an aching of the bone on the left side.

I just wanted to check if these sound normal or if I should call my hospital to get checked out?

Thanks so much.

ANSWER

This sounds exactly like what we call "growing pains." Everything is starting to stretch, including some ligaments that are attached to bones in your vaginal area.

You can mention this at your next visit, but unless there is severe cramping and/or bleeding, I'm thinking that your body is doing just what it is supposed to do!
