Spotting at 7 Weeks

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I'm 7 weeks pregnant and I just started spotting. I've had a miscarriage in the past and am extremely nervous.

The bleeding is very light, sort of mucousy, and I'm only slightly crampy, but I've been slightly crampy for weeks now. Could this be late implantation? Or should I be worried that it's something more serious?

Thank you!

ANSWER

Any bleeding during pregnancy should be reported immediately to your provider, hopefully while it is still going on.

With your history, you might request an ultrasound and maybe a progesterone level to tell you more about what is going on. Good luck!
