Why Haven't I Started My Period?
QUESTION
Dear Midwife,
Hi! I'm new to this site and would like to get some answers as to what my body is doing.
My husband and I decided that we wanted to try to get pregnant starting the first of the year. I had my regular period on Dec 21 and then decided to not get anymore pills. I have been on the pill for 7 years and have had a normal 28 day cycle. My periods before I went on the pill were pretty predictable. Although sometimes I would have two periods a month; I was always on a 28 day cycle though.
I assumed that I would stay on the 28 day cycle but today is day 40 and I still have not started. I did pay attention to my cervical mucus and I had it Jan 9-14. With that being said I know that you are supposed to start 14 days after ovulation so I expected to start Jan 28....(or Jan 18 if I went off the 28 day cycle that I had been on with the pills) I have taken 2 pregnancy tests, 1 on Jan 18 and 1 on Jan 28, both were negative. Any suggestions?
My body has definitely felt funny this past month and I just thought that it was due to me not being on the pill anymore. I have been queasy and extremely moody....which is not normal for me! Please help me understand what is going on with my body! THANKS!!!
ANSWER
From all you say, it sounds like your body is adjusting to being off the pill. If you go more than about 60 days without a period, I'd say it's time to go for a check-up, though, just to make sure all is well. Good luck!
