QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I just found out I am pregnant, very new only about 3 weeks, WOW! I have a concern regarding the beauty products I use - they do contain retinol and my night facial cream contains both Retinol and Hyaluronic Acid. Should I give them to my girlfriend? and if so, what are some safe products to use during pregnancy to help with wrinkles and mild acne?

Thank you!

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I am a grad student in an intensive immersion program in the health care field. I just finished my first year and have another year to go...and I just found out I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I'm 30, married to a great guy, and I'm extremely excited and ready to have a baby - in most respects, such as I'm 30, all my friends are having babies, we're financially stable, have a ton of family support, etc...

However, there are a few things I'm nervous about as well...

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I was given two doses of Diflucan 150 mg one week apart at the very beginning of the pregnancy (1st / 2nd week) to treat a yeast infection. I didn't know at that time that I was pregnant.

I read about the side effects and I'm worried about what's going to happen to the development of the fetus. What are the risks? When would I know I everything is ok with the Baby

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I am 22 weeks and rode a ride that is a lot like the haunted mansion at Disney world yesterday. I thought it was a kiddie ride but forgot that there was one section where the ride spins for several seconds.

Will this cause the baby brain damage? How much buffer will the amniotic fluid give him? I didn't have any cramping or bleeding but I am really scared. I won't ride anymore rides until he is born but I am scared that the damage is done.

QUESTION

Dear Midwife,
I am in my first trimester; about 5 weeks now. I am experiencing bad constipation! I have tried everything from fiber cereals to Metamucil and drinking plenty of water. It feels like nothing is working. I have used enemas in the past and they have worked.

Can I use one now to relieve the pain? Is this safe for the baby?
